Changing perspectives

It's so hard to change perspectives, now that I'm back at the gym obviously I'm trying to eat better, today I got to work and they bought me lunch and they had donuts, which I definitely wont touch but they bought me a BBQ burger that is now sitting next to me and I cant bring myself to eat it.... I want it but at the same time I know it wasnt peaches at the gym today... I would have scarfed it down without a doubt 3 weeks ago but now it's just different.... damn this is hard.... I'm sitting here trying to convince myself to eat it and NOT to eat it at the same time.... :worried:

How do you guys deal with stuff like parties, dinner invites and general scenarios where you are not in charge of the food?

P.S. They're having pizza Friday.... jeez :mix:

what jigga said...

but for parties/social gatherings of various kinds...I cut myself some slack...don't go hog wild if you have self control...TASTING things is so much more gratifying then just wolfing something down
and I mean literally a bite....at the very least if you cheat...you know you found the most awesome thing ever to eat

if you DON"T have that kind of self control or don't trust yourself...eat something crazy high in fiber before you go...but for work...pack a lunch

Just tell them you are not hungry. Have something to eat that you packed before hand so you really aren't. Once in a while, say yes.

Depriving yourself is the best way not to be able to hold onto a change in lifestyle.
Cheats are there to help you along the way. One or two cheats a week will not ruin what you are trying to attain I cheat two times a week. It helps you not to focus on food all the time.
Over time you will find that cheats will become less and less because the need and the feeling you get from heavy fats will just make you feel like crap.

my 2 cents.

The Captain nailed it Nann, take baby steps or the preassure will overwhelm you. Ease back into it and let it become a lifestyle. If you jump into it will become a fad, and you will never stick to the training or dieting aspects of it. Set small goals every week in the gym and with your diet, so that you can see progress, do not force yourself into failure. Good Luck GF

I just don't eat it Nan. If it's not something I don't want in my body, then it stays on the plate.

As for work, I always bring my lunch. For parties I usually eat right before I go so I'm not hungry when I'm there. There is essentially never any food I can eat at family get-togethers since all Mexican homestyle is some uber fatty and/or carby stuff.

I decided to eat the burger however I only ate half, had the other half for breakfast today... and today will eat home made chicken veggie soup :)

I don't really understand what's so bad about a hamburger? Unless its fast food of course... But a homemade hamburger's not that bad. The bun could be the only carby thing for the day.
Home made chicken soup sounds good.

yeah honestly if iIreally want a burger I toss the buns and eat the rest, but homemade is usually bison anyway...which is ohh soo delicious....unless of course Im going for major cheat then i go fast food loaded with crap...

then commiserate for 2 hrs after because I feel like such shit..physically...from eating it...lol
doesn't stop me from doing it every once ina while tho

captainahole totally nailed it....if you feel deprived you won't stick to it..but for cheats like I said...stick to a taste rather than a whole plate...you may find you don't really want it...and if you do, the plate is still there and not the end of the world

That's a great start dear, just take small steps, and enjoy every small accomplishment. They will lead to a good end result.

It was. She said they bought her a BBQ burger.

I agree though. A homemade burger made with lean grass fed beef is an awesome thing. You can only find that in very upscale restaurants though.

Im the opposite, I have to make it 100% or not at all. I struggle to eat 1 cheat meal a week, I would much rather not cheat at all and just forget about cheat food otherwise I end up binging and cheating most days.

I would rather cut it out and forget about it.

It sounds sad but I dont party much simply because the bad eating and drinking takes the edge off of the fun and I dont end up enjoying it as much.

but yeah, for alot of people setting small goals each week is the best way...

You're not new to training and dieting either bro

Ah. Woops!
I guess so huh.

Thanks bro, I'm trying my best, my arms hurt like a bitch after curls yesterday, I also spot my husband benching and lifting so I have to help him out on his reps too....

I preach "everything in moderation".
Having said that, I had a KFC double-down about 2 months ago and I think I was sick for three days.

Did you do much cardio at the gym?

If I train then I have no problem ignoring food as exercise supresses the appetite. If I don't train for a few days, my willpower will eventually break and I'll eat poor dietary choices.

Personally the burger wouldn't bother me as it contains a fair amount of protein and iron but I wouldn't eat the bun.

I do cardio and lift as well

*eats a spoonful of soup* :D

Also how the hell do y'all get a gallon of water in your bodies without going to the bathroom every 30 freaking minutes.....?

pack your own, or tell people you are a vegan...

honestly nan, you don't need to eat that stuff. it doesn't hurt if you have a small bit though. if you want to eat a slice of pizza, go for it. just eat one instead of 2-3. its all about keeping it low when it comes to cheating.
i know you have the willpower! remember your goals come first!

but it still makes me pee too much :( I spend most my afternoon and night at the office :worried:

eventually you'll stop peeing constantly. think of it like...purging for a lil bit

I feel like im gonna die if I don't have at least a gallon of water a day... you can scale it back a little too if you're eating things very high in water content (some veggies for instance)
like I'll not drink like a quart if I eat a ton of melon or oranges

shirl is like a camel...humped back and all

see...i knew I had mentioned melon earlier today...I knew there had to be a reason why I bought 6 of em

I didnt, it actually expired already...

Seriously though, how do you all deal with the gallon of water?

You get used to it. I drink close to 2 gallons per day and if I go a couple of hours without drinking at least a few pints of water my pee starts to turn yellow.

Also, if you joose you can eat pretty much whatever you want and be ok. 'Course it could just be my genes. They're pretty solid aside from the whole baldness thing.

HTF do you do it!?!?!?!

I've been trying so hard and just cant :( how often do you drink how much throughout the day?

hey nan, since your just starting, i recommend you try out the warrior diet and see how it works out for ya.

I made a thread about a while back. It would solve all the diet problems you've run into posted in this thread (it did for me anyways)

even though i've been 'off' the diet for a while now, i still eat like the diet outlines(not exact but just the whole concept of it) because if feels more natural and i dont feel like crap. honestly i eat pretty much anything i want and i haven't really gained any weight really all of last yr(aside form losing even more weight and purposely gaining it back). no abs but tummy has stayed flat/firm.

I don't know your goals, but if it's just weight loss, what I did was 80% clean and 20% not as clean
I worked out 5-6 days a week and went from a size 14 to a size 3 in 6 months and didn't drive myself mad with my diet.
My diet is very clean now, but won't deny myself a pc of pizza, some chips, a little junk.
I detox often and keep it functioning well and eat 80% clean and I've kept the weight off for 13 yrs.
It's a process, take it slow.

I have a tendency to get agitated with people at parties when it comes to pushing food at you.

seems like all the fat fucks of the world try to make you fat too.

Jesus Christ me too. It's like they try to make you feel like an asshole by politely declining dessert. Fuck off.

I like this 80 % business.
I went a bit overboard before on the restriction aspect of the meal plan and started to obsess over it instead of allowing for cheats.
By obsess I mean controlling every aspect of what I was going to eat for the week, thinking about it, researching the nutrition and calories, Totally doing a giant mind f**k on myself. So when I came face to face with forbidden fruit, I had like five times the amount I would normally have, and then feel remorse. And control even more after that. Not good for my head.

The only thing a woman should be obsessed about is shoes ;-)
I'm in the natural health care field and we teach the 80% rule with all health regimes. It works well.

That is true ;)
When I tackle something- whether it be a problem/research/hobby/theory I usually go way overboard, and take it too far, dissect it, put it back together again and get completely obsessive. I like to think hard about things, sometimes too hard.
I think for the next few days I will actually try to only give 80 %- actually I seem to remember reading a sports psychology book that said to only shoot for about 80% in order to reach "the zone" for focus. Going for 100 % makes you full of nerves supposedly.
