Cardio while bulking...

How many of you do much cardio when bulking? I am currently 10 weeks into a 12 week Test/EQ cycle. I've done zero cardio and haven't gained much body fat at all, a percent at most. Bodyweight has gone from 180 to 198. Couldnt be happier with the results so far. Just wondering if many of you mess with cardio while bulking, or do just enough to keep the heart going. Like I said I personally didn't do any, just based on how my body looked.

cardio is always good for your health. Besides, bulking or cutting, if your diet is on track, with enough protein and carbs to support muscle development, you should burn only fat during cardio excercise and burning fat is always good.

Yes, I do cardio while bulking..... Usually 30mins after lifting weights, and 45-60mins on non lifting days..... Light intensity just to keep fat gain to a minimum.... I get fat easy, so this is why I have to do the cardio..... If you aren't gaining alot of fat, then dont' worry about it....

Sounds good to me. I've always done cardio when "on" :Chef: :tuc:

This is a great thread for me and I am interested to see others input. I just came of 6 weeks of Dbol and didn't do a day of cardio. I hardly ever get any fat so cardio isn't a big deal except for the fact I'm like a tank that can't move now. I have always been afraid to do cardio while on in thought it might decrease some gains. I understand the diet thing but if I'm not putting on fat than won't the cardio be taking of some muscle?

Bro...I've tried doing cardio on a D-bol jumpstart and it was nearly impossible.
The lower back pumps are overwhelming! But once the D-bol was out of my system, I started the cardio. :Chef:

just curious, why would you do cardio after your workout. Before i assume would get you warmed up hitting the weights, however, i can see after for a continuation of "keeping the furance lit" Thanks bro

I never do cardio while bulking, but that's about to change, I can really fell the diff, breath harder and workout with less intensity, plus my BP suffers. As mentioned earlier, good diet will sustain muscle and only burn fat and that's why I am going back to it. I dont get very fat while bulking either, but my heart feels it when I dont do it for awhile.

One of my friends needed me to push his wheels the other day because of a dead battery. I think it might have been 100 ft and I was calling for oxygen and a nurse. I used to run 2 miles in 11:15 about a year ago, maybe I should get back to the cardio!

Exactly.... After lifting weights your body starts to use Fat for energy.... Getting on the Treadmil at a slow pace will just "Keep the Furnace Lit" like you said.... Many many BB's do cardio at this time..... Cardio 1st thing in the AM, and post workout are the most popular times to do cardio cause your body is primed to use Fat as its' main energy source..... Works well for me, been doing it for years....

I currently do 20 mins cardio after training. Was thinking of boosting up to 30 mins (low/mod intensity) after training. Any experiences?

I do but, I'm 41 and I LOVE to eat. . .even when I'm real serious about my diet (which I never am around the holidays :) :) ), I still jump off the wagon EVERY Saturday. Even if I was strict all the time, I think it's still a good idea to have a regular cardio regimen (especially for us 40-plus-ers). . .I definitely have more productive workouts and get better results (both strength and definition-wise) if I warm up and warm down with some medium-intensity cardio.

I like to do 10 min sprints after workout. However, I have been hearing alot of comments about muscle loss with short high intensity cardio.

Opinions?

Anytime you can activate the fast twitch muscle fibers, its a good thing. Sprints are great for muscle building. Having that explosiveness can ONLY help. Just dont go crazy and do em for hours.

didnt you ever watch the olympics??

sprinters are VERY defined and have alot of muscle mass in comparsion to the other runners.......

CARDIO ... Is for cardiovascular health more so then to deline your weight ..

Cardio if done properly will increase the size of the left ventricle in your heart ... why would we want that , you ask ?

well ....... With each pump of the heart " more " blood volume " is put into the blood stream " without " an increase in BP ... more blood per beat means the heart can now operate at a lower rate ( less beats per minute ) .

The resting heart rate of an elite athlete has been seen in the low 40's !!! the other 99.99 percent of us beat in the high 80's or even lower 90's ... take your pulse first thing in the morning and see what yours is ..

Count the beats for 10 seconds then times that # by 6 = beats per minute

Increased cardio health also means more oxygen to feed those hunger muscles .

For the guy who asked " why cardio after a workout " .. it helps to flush the muscles with fresh blood removing damaged tissues ... it also help with the wicking action of the viens to keep blood from pooling in the lower extremidies .. blood is pumped from the heart via arteries returned thru veins which " wick " or constrict on there own to aid pushing the blood back to the heart ...

IMO cardio is fine even on bulk, on my last cycle i did cardio porbably 2.5x a week on avaerge not for the fat burning effect as i alwasy ate more on cardio days but for health effects

i do feel if you are powerlifting cardio can be detrimental to gains and as such the dream of benching/ squatting huge should be measured against the need for cv perfomace

this is imo and in my experince

To what extreme are you measuring cardio ? like long distance running ?

Here's my week ..... mondays i teach a 60 minute spinbike class ( massive cardio workout )

Tuesday : chest workout ... bench

220lbs warm up set 12 to 14 reps

310lbs set 1 8 reps / set 2 8 reps

360lbs - set 1 6reps / set 2 4 reps

400lbs - 1 set 5 reps

420lbs - 1 set 3

flush set with 140lbs - 1 set 25 reps then off to incline cable flies then dips
finished off with lats and then triceps

wednesday off

Thursday 30 minutes on the eliptical trainer then " leg workout "

friday , shoulders and biceps

saturday off

sunday 25 minutes running the track followed by ab's calves and any other bodypart i feel needs to be picked on a bit more .

I'm 41 5' 10 " 230lbs with about 10 % bodyfat and still have power

Nothing record breaking but i feel i'm an all around athlete and not just a walking block .. so you can have cardio health and power at the same time

I'm sure there are a few NFL defensive backs that you would'nt want chasing you down a back alley !!! those MFers are big and can run a long time ... lol

'measuring cardio' go over to drsquat a very very good forum for powerlifitng and they will any steady state cardio is bad sprinting not so much but nay steady state will effect your strngth on your lifts and in particular squats to a lesser extend deads and bench

'run a long time' i don think they could bro they porbably dont train over 100yards they would haev great recovery but i doubt they could run for 800meters as well as a college 800m runner. and a db aint exactly waht i would call big @ <210

you doing well with stats and progress but i think that if you really wanted to sort your lifts out cv can be detriemntal but like you say you are iaming for an all round physique therefore cv is a invaluable.

That's how I do mine, right after my workout.

Cardio always makes me lift better
i dont know why
but maybe bc i have more stamina plus u look better
and if i fuck a fatty well i can hold her ass up in the air longer too if i am in good shape
not that i fuck fatties

also all of my best one rep maxes happened when i had been doing cardio consistently for a few weeks

and doing the eliptical i have noticed my calves look nicer
i had not done too much cardio for my last cycle consistently but i am gonna do it religiously for this one
20 min after every workout and when i do that real easy then ill bump up to 45 min eventually
