Cardio and going Catabolic

Pardon the newbie question but I've been wondering this for a while.

Is there any difference, considering that diet (cutting diet in my case), etc. are equal, in the amount of muscle you stand to lose when doing high impact cardio (punching a bag, running, etc) in favor of low impact cardio (eliptical machine).

I swear I could punch a punching bag for 20 minutes a day if I thought I wouldn't end up killing myself.

Im not an expert but im almost positive HIT is a lot less catabolic than endurance. More calories burned over a shorter amount of time.

Awesome. I do know that anything beyond about 30 minutes gets into being catabolic. I might try working in 2 15 minute sessions on those days. I don't want to burn muscle and I don't really mind lifting weights. But I walk away feeling like I've been worked over a lot more heavily if I wailed on a bag for 15 minutes compared to lifting for 30.

are you talking about punching a bag instead of lifting??

No, I just mean that I enjoy it more than lifting...much to the point that I'd rather punch a bag 5 or 6 days a week and lift 3 days a week instead of vice verse. I just don't want to over do cardio.
