when i turn on my car's heater, i get vapor/steam coming out of the vents.

im having a heater issue with my caddy - the damn fan doesnt seem to want to kick on and blow the air through the vents - i can feel the hot air come through the vents when I go faster and faster

not a car guy here....more of a boob guy, so take my advice with a grain of salt. IMO, you need a new car.

heater core...not fun. have a couple beers or a Zani before attempting to replace. no small children should be present...pets should be kenneled for the day...give wife CC for xmas shopping send her to the mall. bring a friend to hand tools to you.

Getting to the heater core on an old Ford is like taking "Beating Your Head Against The Wall" lessons. It would appear that on the assembly line, they started with the heater core and built the whole car around it. And then they put that little cardboard cover over it.

the vehicle in question is a '64 ford ranchero....which shares many below the skin parts with the first generation mustang.

R & R the heater core is not the chore on this one as it is on newer cars......i think i'd pay a repair shop to do a newer car.

i know you're down souf but, do you use coolant in your mixture (i.e., not straight water)?? if so, and there's no smell to the vapor/steam, then the drain in box that houses your heater core, fan, etc needs cleaned out. . .when it rains, water comes through the vent (for the heater box intake) by the windshield and runs out through the drain in the bottom of the box. . .when the drain gets plugged with leaves, pine needles, debris the box will start to retain water. . .
