Can you "train" yourself to sleep longer?

PICK3

New member
I only sleep about 5.5 hours a night. If I go to bed early I'll wake up in the middle of the night and have interrupted sleep for the duration.

Can you increase your nightly sleep time or is it an "internal clock" that's unique for each individual?

How do you feel when you wake up? Do you feel refreshed or do you tired but just can't sleep any longer?

the latter ... I believe I'm sleep deprived, but I don't know how to remedy it.

im actually being serious; during winter break when i dont work or have class i dont do shit cause its cold outside and none of my friends from school live near me, and i dont sleep that well. I sleep a lot better when im busy during the day, probably out of necessity.

You may want to try 1 of these herbs, you can get them in tea form, capsule or drop form. Valerian, Lavender, or Passionflower these herbs all help promote a better sleep.

Or you could try having some turkey or milk before bed, both contain tryptophan.

Hi angel

Do they make tryptophan in a pill form?

make a huge meal, turkey and eggs/egg whites.... wash it down with some milk before bed.

Stuff yourself to induce a food coma. Make sure you don't have to take a piss because that can interrupt sleep. Many times I've woken up at 5am to piss and feel wide awake for the day after 4 hours of sleep. It takes it's toll later on.

1. Cold room
2. So dark you cant see your hand in front of your face (that means put something over your alarm or any indicator lights on anything in your room)
3. so quiet you could hear something that's really quiet

How old are you?

Some people get less sleep than others naturally. I'm fairly certain you would have to eat 50lbs of turkey to get enough tryptophan and somehow make your body make it into melatonin.

since ive had the internet and no classes or job, ive been sleeping horribly, since i stay up all night on my computer, sleep a few hours during the day, wake up and cant sleep anymore. its sucky.
i really need some discipline, or someone to just come and take all my computers away.

Yeah ... I'm gonna pass of that advice

keep going to bed if u can at the same time. try sleeping through it. i have a fan in my room blowing at me all the time. honestly im addicted to it now and if i turn it off i cant sleep

Bro some people are just alright with less sleep
I get 4 hours of sleep a night off season when im eating more and heavier, 5 hours during pre-contest dieting. I recover fine and ive never needed any more or less sleep than that.
You will be ok, trust your body is doin what it needs to.
but the advice about a cold room and it being super quiet and PITCH black will help tremendously.

Thanks for the advice.

When I was in college we'd set the thermostat so low that condensation would be dripping off the door knob in the morning.

Some serious hibernation was going on then.

dude I've made good gains in lean muscle when I stick to that last meal each day. I don't drink milk though.

sleeping via a "food induced comma" doesn't seem very healthy ;)

dude that's just a figure of speech, lol. That happens with every meal. Don't you notice you get sleepy after eating a semi large meal? That's what I call a food coma.

Oh ... I guess I took you too literally.

Thanks for the advice.
