Can omega's reduce libido?

krishna

New member
Omega's have been shown to be a 5ar inhibitor and an anti-androgen when applied topically. Just wondering if this has any effect internally on libido? My libido is down for some reason, and omega's are the only thing I've changed lately besides garlic extract.

Well.

Omega doesn't exactly put me in the mood. He is a cool guy and everything though.

Anyone? Where you at Mava?

I noticed the same thing bro, but I couldnt nail down any studies on what that would be from.

The connection I was looking into was the fact that flaxseed oils are hi in omega 3's and are known to increase s.hbg which would lower free test and reduce libido.

This effect from flax is commonly attributed to the lignans in the flax, but maybe.....

if anyone comes across anything on this I'd love to see it

btw, I've only read about the Omega's 5-ar inhibition on hairloss product sites - but if its true topically (with studies to back it up), it would probably be true systemically which would certainly explain the degraded libido (take a look at the listed side effects from finasteride, the prescipton anti-5ar drug)

I'm aware that 5ar inhibitors lower libido, that's what made me curious about this whole thing. I've only read it works from hairloss product adds also. I'll see if I can dig anything legit up.

First time I read about this...and I take a lot of Omega fish oils every day for cholesterol purposes.

:(

Pay attention to your libidos fellas. I've came across some posts on a few other sites also with the same concern. I honestly started losing my libido ever since I've been using an omega 3/6/9 supplement daily.

How many days would be enough to make a test? I mean, if I stop the oils today, in how many days I should see a difference to know if I have a libido decrease from them? My libido is definitely not the same as it was at 20....but I thought that was just the age. Should a couple days be enough to make a test?

It's hard to say. I would just pay real close attention daily and see if you notice anything within a week or two. I'm gonna do the same thing.

Isn't flax pretty much omega 3? If that's what's causing the libido issue, then naturally omega 3 from fish would do the same thing.
