I hate all this shit you have to do to keep a damn car legal. I got pulled over last night for an expired registration and motor vehicle inspection. The damn ticket is $130. How the hell do they expect me to pay that if I can't even get my shit renewed. I go today to see how much my taxes are so I can get my registration... $111 + $30 for registration. Can't get my inspection until I get a broken tail light fixed... $68 (for some plastic!?!)

The bus, subway and bicycling are much more environmentally conscious choices.

That being said.........I drive to work and it only 8 blocks away. IN my defense; it is due to the fact I come home for lunch.:p

Shit, you beat me to it Y_Lifter.:D

Good luck BabyMuscle. I use to work in WV (Chas.) and we would take bets on who could go the longest without getting stopped by the police for an expired sticker. That was before the days of road blocks and stiffer fines. I went 9 mnths once and this one girl I knew went a little over 2 years. LOL!!

Despite that fact, they aren't the most practical choices. One of my professors yesterday was talking about the hazards of cars and all the problems that can come with them. However, in today's society, it's not feasible to try to go without your car. SOme people can do without them, I'll admit. But it's not the norm.

BabyMuscles - yah it sucks how they rape us like that. there is a fuckin fee for everything. i feel like once i buy my car, pay taxes on it, buy the license plate, then they should leave me the fuck alone. but no, every year you pay almost 100 bucks for a fuckin sticker for the plates.

on a more positive note, you can go to a car parts store and maybe buy yor own taillight and have yourself or someone you know replace it for much cheaper than $68. call around.

No subway here. Bicycle won't cut it. Bus... if all else fails.

Bodhisattva: that's my area (St. Albans)

Do most states have car taxes, registration and inspection? My friend from Michigan said he just found out he has to pay taxes on his car and he was surprised.

As far as the tail light, the local auto parts stores don't carry it so I've been checking with used parts stores and I'm going to call some junkyards.

All states have some form of registration and inspection system. In New Jersey and Del. You can do a 2 year sticker but most are just 1 year.

St. Albans in a nice town. Go to Pepboys and buy a new light cover and put it on yourself. It'll be a lot cheaper that way. Good luck girl. I'm a "West Side Boy" From Charleston. :)

I see so many POS crap cars on the road that sometimes I wish we did have vehi inspections..

FL relies on the State HPatrol to notice and pull over unsafe vehicles. I think they are doing a great crappy job at it..

FL only has tag/registration fees of about $40 a year.
No inspections, taxes etc..

But we do have Sharks..
I think the low fees are due to the lottery, right? In Missississippi, I pay about $250 a year for my license plates. I feel like that's a deal compared to when my car was new. It's 4 years old now.

If your biggest problem is $200 worth of taxes and repairs you are doing better than alot of Americans.

BABYMUSCLE may be appropriate handle for you minus the MUSCLE part.

carry on BM...
I know what you mean though, $20 here, $50 here, $130 here, and boom it is more and more...

I can relate, but I still count my self fortunate. Try to focus on something positive and breathe deeply...

What the heck is Ad Valorum tax anyway? Is that latin for "Meaningless Bullshit Tax"? They can only tax you on the purchase of your car once so they just invent some dumbass crap to tax you repetitively on your vehicle.

Ad Valorum taxes are based on evaluations rather than transactions. The evaluation process is determined by various criteria related to the item in a given market.

That and its a nifty way to bend you over and pick your pocket.

Some counties have inspections. Pinellas use to and I'm sure they still do.

They as well dropped it in 2000 because cars now have cat conv and the testing was not finding enough bad exhaust to warrant the cost..

And as for the lottery, all they did was take the money it raises and put it in the coffers, then spend that same amount that was already there in the budget and spend it elsewhere.

We were bamboozled..

Oh , and the main reason Florida has such a low cost of living
is because we have Crappy Schools and roads and such..

And we have tourists.
