Can Big brother get in your computer with out ever coming to your house?

I am a bit paranoid.Just wondering if they need to get in your house to get in your specific computer and see everything that goes in and out of it.Or could they set up a tap in it with the Cable company,so the tap is on your cable modem. My cable modem went dead and when I called the cable company they told me their was a block in it and that caused it to go dead.Just weird shit with the way the whole thing went, just wondering if they can tap your computer through the cable company and how to avoid it I ahve a business firewall and all that crap and use proxy servers. :worried:

Yes they can. No they dont need to go into your house. They have programs that run in Windows undetected that can be downloaded without you being aware of it installed into the PC.
that can track and log everything you do. Here are some popluar ones.

Winspy,BackOrfice,Sub7,WinNanny,NetNanny,Win32Spy,BlackBox,Cydoor,DesktopScout,PanteraKeyLogger,etc... Many More...

As for putting a tap on the cable I dont know...
Anybody else? Im curious to know this too..

most good anti viruses will show these files as risks. IN large compaines we install the spy software and then exclude that program from the virus checking list, in my line of work security is a must and I really dont like how easy it is for them to watch us, but the key is, something must be installed on your local machine now adays, older oses, I could get in regardless.

Your ISP can snoop your traffic all day long but even one active computer generates GB's log files daily, so they won't bother unless they have a good reason to.

ok, You are both right... kind of.

Thats all bullshit to them. They run your service they dont need script kiddy programs to do this.

I can think of at least 3 ways to do this but the quickest way is to flag your MAC address right from the first router on your street.

They pipe all the traffic to an archive and analize the data there is no practicle way to find out if they are doing this either.

Bottom line is that if you REALLY want to be anonymous online you are better off going to another place to do what ever u have to do. (internet cafe...etc).

No proxy, shell or firewall is going to help unless u are encrypting your connection and the other comp can read that and have a key but then its only a matter of time before they crack it.

keep in mind that u have to do something BAD for them to go threw the trouble but if they want u they will get u.

lol

EDIT: and if u ARE encrpting your output in a safe manner they can just get a warrent and take your computer.

Well a very good program is called spysweeper by webroot, please dont think im trying to spam.. lol... If you keep it up to date it's very good... But it still doesnt protect you 100% there are new spy programs coming out everyday.
The spysweeper program uses a dictionary file with all the KNOWN spyware defs
if it matches the exact hex key or the same name it will disable it. But if the program
is not in the list, it never knew it was there... So... I guess you are never safe...
I dont think I would lose much sleep over this. The ISA,NSA,FBI,DEA are looking for big tymers, not the little man asking q's about gear. Just my .02

sounds like marsboi knows his shit...=) that is true, alot of people think
they are protected just by using a proxy regardless if it's anonymous.. But
thats not so... It must be encrypted to be safe..

Guys.. u are missing the point. they dont NEED any of that. everything u send out or recieve runs threw their networks.... FIRST. The last thing an admin is going to do s fuck around with bulshit apps do the same thing better with one command in a shell.
