I drew my first 3d object last night - a screw driver.
I'm like a 7 year old.

I havnt used AutoCad in 5 years, I am taking 3D now and it sucks. I use CATIA at work all day and design /draw complex gears/transmission housing but i go to class and draw.......well, screwdrivers. LOL. I feel ya.

On Monday I'll copy it off the school computer.

It's my virgin cocktail.
LOL - get it, first screw driver...

Ok, I'm totally geigh... :qt:

lmao :FRlol:
your (corny) jokes rival that of mine.

I know nothing about CAD, but does it involve math or mapping functions? I'm assuming it words on a standard xyz-coordinate plane? I could be way off, but I'm just curious.

vel... gonna send you a site that you can go on and look at some awesome models... just people playing around with the program I work in and they post them on the website. Some things are just meaningless... others are parts and such

Cad is awesome, my best friend and I used it to draft satanic dough boys back in highschool.

Good work Vel and I thought about the drink too before you mentioned it.

Cheers,
Scotsman

That's cool. I've only drawn in 2D w/ CAD. But I design alot in CAM(computer aided manufacturing). We're currently using Autocad for 2D drawings and Mastercam for 3D surfacing and toolpaths.
Velvett, what are you learning this for, what type of work?

Well, I wanted to learn CAD for work to draw houses and cabinetry (mostly interior related items) because hand drafting aside from quick sketches is really time consuming when you have clients that changes their minds a lot - not to mention dated nowadays. Also, when I do work with Architects we can speak the same language - so to speak.

Anyway, I enjoyed it so much I decided I would just keep taking classes. I know I've only just touched on what's out there and I'm just in awe - it's just really fun to me - I could draw for hours. (I should have been born a few years later... ah well)

There's some really talented people out there and from what I can tell people really have no idea as to what goes into the "pictures" and "details" they take for granted as "computer generated".
