C4-5 Herniated Disc Help

I have been dealing with this injury for almost 10 months now and have been in physical therapy for 4 months. The disc on my latest MRI has healed but the muscle in my neck down to my shoulder is in constant spasm and is tight. The thing is the pain is off and on throughout the day so one moment I can barely turn my head and the next I don't feel a thing.

Is there anything to speed up the muscle recovery. Currently, I am just taking fish oil, vitamin c, and advil for anti-inflamation.
I was also wondering if anyone had any suggestions with training. Right now I'm doing light lifting and nothing but cardio to follow. Is it even worth it to attempt to get back into my normal weight lifting regiment. The thing is I had stopped weight lifting when I started physical therapy(except for the exercises I was given to do on my own or during therapy sessions.) I very antsy to get back into training but am afraid of herniating the disc again because the muscles in my neck and shoulder are inconsistent.

Any input or insight is greatly appreciated.

use a heating pad each night-----keep up with the advil-----PT didnt give you exercises to complete at home?? As antsy as you are to get back into the gym, be careful man, one lil tweek and you will be back in pain again----I stated in another post to a member to check out a DO (doctor of osteopathy) DO's do everyting MD's do, but they learn Osteopathic manipulative medicine (google it) some people are hesitant on DO's but personal experience right here! The manipulations work-----if you have insurance, look up a DO who practices osteopathic manipulative medicine or one who does rehab----good luck

Thanks liquid. Yeah I have exercises I've been doing on my own but it doesn't seem enough. I feel pretty good after doing the exercises given to me and some cardio but about an hour later the spasms return. I will definitely give DO a try.

Yeah, give a DO a shot. Just make sure the DO you go to see practices/specializes in Osteopathic manipulative medicine not all DO's practice the OMM aspect. Good luck, let me know how it turns out for you!
