Today is the first day I did these I usually do Standing BTN Military Press. I worked up to 170lbs on the bar and it wasnt too hard but the whole coming down thing was different for me. Seems like a couple times bringing it down it didnt land were I wanted it to and my neck didnt feel to good. Its just hard controlling all the weight back down. Any suggestions or tips?

Thanks guys

Yes. Don't expect to be good at anything, including BTN push press, on your first day. Practice, practice, practice.

And bend at your knees and hips a bit to absorb the bar so it's not just slamming down onto your shoulders.

The first time I ever did it I hit the bar on my head extremely hard and I thought I had a concussion(sp?). It was brutal. I haven't gone back since. Haha.

Just bend at the knees to receive the bar and aim for the meatiest part of the traps.....keep clear of the base of the neck of course.

good advice from everyone. just takes a little practice putting the bar back down in the right place and bending the knees to absorb the shock and it wont be any big deal. couple of weeks and you wont even notice it anymore.
