i was wondering if anyone had a great book or website that taught alot about boxing , also searchinf or a mayweather video and fight videos..i have added boxing now as I appriach 25 and I like how it hardens me up and cuts my chest...builds shoulders...I wish I woud have learned how to use my hands early on in life ...starting around 10

my friend boxes and has been involed in some form since he was around 8-9 yrs old and he boxes and he uses winsreol/halo mix and I feel sorry for his liver but here is his cycle and work out-

2400 eod 12oo push ups 1200 sit ups
runs 2 miles every 3 days
weights 3 days compound excs most
bag 40 mins to 1 hour on bag and spped bag every other day
]
sparing of and on

halo and winny and he looks hard bros , i know thats ruff on the liver but he uses 6 weeks and thats ist--

thoght thiswould be cool to know antways help on the above , i kinda got side tracked

boxing blows...no offence...i have respect for the old skool sport..but real fighting is around and any MMA fighter would kick a boxers ass anyday...Come down to the Rickson gracie academy or any jiu-jitsu/MMA academy and you will be able to kick any boxers ass in like a couple years
your right about halo...great for fights...winny not so much...drys you out and you can get hurt really bad.

Maybe....but if Tyson (in his prime) hit one of those guys without gloves or those little pads they could easily die.

"To beat a martial artist that's been training for 15 years, all you need to do is box and wrestle for 1 year, and he's yours."
-Bruce Lee

thats the plan i want to box abd train on that for next year and then add wrestling....ground and pound...

UFC ground and pound

Mayweather Jr is bad though i dnt care what anyone says hes fast and hes bad...i cant find a loss on him in his pro....correct me if im wrong on that please...i have been trying to find that out-

Not if the MMA guy had to stay on his feet. Don't get all crazy on me here...but some of the guys win because they are just ankle biters. That being said I much prefer to watch MMA over boxing and by and large totally agree with you cauli.

MMA is great and more hardcore

Boxing is a great American sport and past time

I think Mayweather is the best of this ERA and up with greats...

Boxing stars are in great shape and who ever thinks other wise is nuts

MMA would take you being in great shape as well...those 150-170 pound boxers are fast and as i like to call it the "battle"

I thinjk I would like to see Sugar Shane vs Mayweather

as a mma guy my self mixed martial arts is superior to one art,but ive seen guys try to take guys down and get knock the fuck out by a quick and powerful hook. if u want to take boxing for a great skill and workout then go for it. and your right mayweather is the best in about 15 years 20 years

i wish Jermain Taylor could drop weight and they could meet amybe at 150 or so lol..Mayweather is so good its not even funny ...he beat them all

dana white is trying to get him to fight a light weight UFC fighter and said he would offer him alot of $$$ to do it

Hes the best boxer ....hes like sugar damn ray

I heard that about dana trying to bring him to mma too.....but once you get him on the ground, it's over.....

remember Kit Cope (4-time World Muay Thai Kickboxing Champion & 4-time World Muay Thai Barenuckle Champion)??.....got destroyed in 1 round by Kenny Florian.

on the ground hes done and he should not do it ...

I think that mayweather as far as boxing is top 10 of all time

been doing alot of research and he is pound for poun d in boxing the man

his workouts are hardcore intense

Lol ... When Dana sent Sherk to sit ringside Floyd apologized to the UFC, Zuffa, and the fighters in general and acknowledged he wants no part of an mma fight and that they are world class athletes in a different sport.

It funny how some people still have the UFC 1 pre conceived notion of the "easy 1 punch knockouts".

Boxing, kickboxing, and mma striking ranges are all completely different and require a substancial amount of time to become profieient enough to surivive against someone thats a master of the other form.

Sherk has one of the fastest/most powerful doubles in the game, and Floyd would be a mess inside of 2 minutes.

I wanna get into Heavyweight Boxing... Noone else is

pound for pound mayweather is the next sugar ray and he is undefeated and in stand up he can play hardball and in the UFC he stands no chance unless he trains for the other parts of the sport MMA

boxing hes running the show the fight was highest money maker in history boxing is not dead in my view but i have major respect love ufc i lick CHUCK!

MMA is a different world. I agree that MMA guys wouldn't make it in boxing. Need submission wrestling skills since they seem to win ground and pount every time

UFC= CHUCK
BOXING= mayweather until someone can produce a HUMAN who can stop him in the ring in this era

I WONDER IF MAYWEATHER JR COULD HAVE BEATEN SUGAR RAY IN HIS PRIME?
a friend of mine is a boxer and he is like 150 and hangs around 170 before and...i tell you what at 150 he lloks like a muscle stack and he will take your head off lol...i tolf him he needed chepue drops...he does halo and i warn him its ruff on the liver...he says its rufer on the other guy lol...

I will say this I recpect bodybuilders but in turn I respect mma and boxing as much. ALL OF US TRAIN LIKE WILD ANIMALS!

I respect the efforts of bodybuilders but TBH you cant really compare a BB to a fighter.

I like having muscles and being strong etc, however BBs IMO just get big and jacked up simply to try and look intimidating, thus avoiding ever having to get in an altracation.

TBH pumping weights, juicing, supplementing, dieting, cardio is tough.

But boxing, wrestling, JJ, MT, etc ... takes a ton more mental and physical strength (different physical abilities obviously).

I just have never watched a better , smarter, faster boxer than mayweather Jr and I feel in hand to hand combat he is the king
I wish he would bulk up or him and Jermain Taylor(160) could find a way to match up...Feedback from fight is leading to a HUGE REMATCH and a HUGE MONEY MAKER...

I hope they do it one more time

I tell you what I added boxing, sparing, jumprope, heavybag, speed bag I go there and do it 2x a week...rest week bodybuild...its summer and its hot so it is hard to get bigger and eat more for me...Im hard as hell right now...

how old is to old to start boxing ...even if your not a pro..I will be 25 in Jan ;(

Man...if Mike Tyson in his prime stepped into the octagon with anyone in MMA right now it would be over. Tyson would seriously end someone's life in one punch.

You can argue about take downs and submissions and what not but if Tyson even grazed someone in UFC or Pride, it would be over. ER visit over. Tyson was an animal in his prime and his foot work was solid too. The moment one of those guys lunged at him to take his legs he would throw a punch and regardless if the dude blocked it or not, it would be over.

to me he was the bully on the playground and once buster beat him he lost EVERY major fight he was in...I think he was manufactured almost and beat alot of people who didnt matter...he didnt beat the best the BEST beat him and I will say his rape convition hurt his deal but as far as pound for pound MAYWEATHER JR has retired beating the best, being the best, and being undefeated and just beat golden boy-

Ali all time and George and those guys old school are the greats
'
mayweather best fighter of this era (hand to hand)

it is not the style bu the individual who makes the difference....if a standing up fighter fights without rules (no gloves hence more devastating blow if he has fists conditioned with iron training, fingers jab, punches on the throat etc..) i would be not so sure. Not sure chuck liddell (Kempo-karate) is a wimp :)

Boxing as a work out is fantastic. Nothing works the abs and all the rotator cuff muscles like boxing. of course boxing teaches bad habits if that's all you train, but it has it's place, and as a sport/ workout it's awesome.

I always thought martial arts implied a host of disciplines, including boxing and wrestling. Basically if there is fighting involved, it's martial arts.

http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&defl=en&q=define:MARTIAL+ARTS&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title

I think back in Bruce Lee's day, and still to an extent today, there is an emphasis on the ART part of Martial Arts in some disciplines and less emphasis on what actually happens in a fight, I think this is what Bruce Lee is refering to

i have been in alot of fight s in bars when i was younger and outside ect this was before I became a DAD lol...but you win some u lose some...

90% ened up on the ground and I saw my self use my knees and elbows alot

I think in boxing mayweather jr is the best for now

the wrestling is imp in real fights and BREATHING...I get to into it...I think breathing is imp..

cool thread

Royce Gracie challenged Tyson, and Tyson wouldn't do it. Tyson was tough, but come on, it is damn rare somebody gets literall killed by a punch, 1 punch knockouts are damn rare in the UFC, I don't think he would be all that impressive in the octagon

i agree , he has the stand up but he would need to train for wrestling and MMA to even have a chance...its appels and oranges

in boxing though hes the man right now-

I like Chuck , do you think Chuck will beat this Big black guy hes fighting this time, his name slips my mind but his NECK IS HUGE!

we agree 100%

not looking for a workout, after the thread started we began to speak about boxing and MMA sorry if that is not what you want to talk about...many more threads here....

MMA is greater I think as far as pure talkent and being hardcore

Chuck will win yes or no what do you guys think?

I don't think so! Oscar D.L.H wouldn't fear any of those guys...hence the reason those guys aren't in the ame ring as him in the first place.

Ouch! Of all time, no way. He's got no balls! He takes no risks. I would prefer to watch gatti, emanuel agustus, joshua clottey, ect... any day over floyd. He is great at avoiding being hit, but it is entertainment, and he's yet to get that part down. RIP Chico

thats why hes so PRETTY because his father and Uncle taught him how to be defensive and protect themselves ect...

he is undefeated and the best until someone can beat him....he just proved that by beating HOya ...now hes the best boxer of this era

Also, I see your side on the show biz part-

could anybody give this guy a workout programme?

Run every day - one mile per minute you want to go in a round
Heavy Bag - should be 3 to 5 min non stop - + warm up shadow boxing
jump rope - alot (start out 5 min or so and work up to 20 min at a time, then change up the foot work)
ab workouts - variety but focus on toughening up the abs (you can train your abs to endure hits but not your head) they should be a wall of muscle protecting your organs
and train with weights - throw punches with dumbells ect... like this ::: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/drobson80.htm

hope that helps

Good post Bro. Can you do a workout like that say 1 or 2 rimes a week and still lift heavy in the gym? In otherwords, is boxing and bulking compatable?

boxing and I bodybuild and I am building up my shoulders , Im so lean and hard as well right now, Im still doing heavy weights and added German Volume taining

200 gram prot a day and I eat cleaN AND drink water non stop

I have been bodybuilding and doing some form of workout since I was like 14-15

Sometimes I will do 1000 multi push ups in one day to total change things

Boxings so far: Abs, and Shoulders are looking and feeling good lol

thanks for the link

sorry but joined this convo looking for boxing workouts, the original poster one is good but seems tough. anybody help me out? 6ft, 215lb, 18% BF, currently doing the 3x5 with good results.

Depends on your body and goals. How does cardio and intensity affect your bulking? The heavy weights stay heavy when they train right? So I would imagine as long as you are not trying to cut and bulk at the same time... How often you train is up to you and how you recover - just keep in mind that conditioning your body takes time. So you might have to work this into your routine.

The idea is conditioning, strength, and more endurance than your competetion. alot of the exercises are meant to build muscle; power, speed and explosive strenght - fast twitch muscle fibers...

i have been training any in many ways for years and I have built a great OVERALL body of fitnes. Im no monster but I am tip top shape all year round.

Look up german volume training, shock workouts, ect... changing up the work out will only help shape, tone, and shock the mucle and making IT grow and build new fibers

Boxing: I was reading some workouts and they have some good books at amazon.com (plug) lol

I bodybuild, box, run, light AND heavy weights

Hit the bag hands taped 3-4 mins , hit light and warm up,
I use the jump rope alot to

Then do heavy bag and HEAVY gloves and give that bag hell and when you have had enough you will KNOW IT! Jump rope till it hurts and master that...jumproping and boxing the bag are great

Final: From what I can tell you need to spar and fight others in practice fights so you can counter punches , be hit, take that hit, work your feet better, and go through your ring routine and combos ect...

Hope this helps: also bodybuilding.com
amazon.com (books and tons of them about this)
