Box Squatting?

Well box squats take away that explosion factor when done right. It hits the quads a little further down than a full squat, but in all honesty I stick with the full squats. IMO its all in the same and I can get plenty from full squats, but to each person his own. Hope this helps.

Probably should ask this in the powerlifting forum. It more closely resembles a powerlifting (half) squat. As mentioned above, the box takes away the stretch reflex b/c you're supposed to pause briefly on the box, and then explode off it w/ your glutes/hips/hams. Works good for the powerlifting squat and the deadlift.

Long story short, just another squat variation, but aimed at improving the powerlifts.

The attachment is a good explanation of what the box squat does. It's written from a PL point of view so if that's not your requirement you can use a regular set-rep scheme. It's very useful for others as well.

Hey guys
What is box squatting good for? Why would you box squat instead of full squat? Thanks

They help to teach you to sit back into the squat. (Gets more hams/glutes/lower back into the lift). Also helps ensure depth of the squat. Box squats are also great for kids/new squatters, to teach them the proper way to squat. They have also taken alot of the strain off my knees, which is nice.

They build the deadlift and squat...A LOT...especially with the use of bands...
