Funny you should ask - I was sitting back more and unloading the weight a bit last night. I was not able to use as much as before. Still pretty close -about 90% - but definitely a difference.Tweakle said:If the box #'s are way ahead of your free squat - are you sitting back and pausing on the box or using it as a depth marker to tap & blast?
question is...how the hell do you get down to 4-5 inches? even my ATF squat isnt that low.

I sit back and pause and on my first one i actually start off the box. I put the bars down real low and sit on the box and bend my back and get under it to take it off. However i also only do this on DE day i would never try it on ME day like this because my problem on the squat in the first place is my lower back and abs which really makes no sense because i can dead a lot more than i can squat.

The actual depth seems to vary a lot from person to person, probably depending on the amount of body mass in the way and flexibility. So long as hamstrings and calves make a good, solid contact, it's an ATF squat in my book.gjohnson5 said:Feel free to rip me
I generally do pl squats only...
I started doing atf after reading some threads here.
So when people do ATF , people are not lowering the weight, standing at a narrow width, and making thier hamstrings touch thier calves?
If so my behind is 2-3 inches off the ground and not 4 even when I was like 250 lbs

When you see pictures of Olympic lifters at their deepest, though, their hamstrings are often lower than their calves. Their foot spacing is often fairly wide too but not as wide as many powerlifters take theirs.
