1987 black but its only a four, good thing is i know a buddy with a cougar whos is gonna scarp it cuz the body is shit,im gonna buy his car to and swop the engines and make a sweet 5l with a posse rear end ,wish me luck on making my fast car

holy shit oak i feel for you cuz i had that 4 cylinder piece of shit engine. 85 mean ass horsepower :lmao:
do you have a hatchback or sedan? you're gonna have to switch out the tranny as well otherwise you're going to obliterate it. i had a 90 LX hatchback with the 4 cylinder. my closest race was against a hyundai excel and i barely beat it by a hair. this was back when i was 16 and i put some 5-stars on it, head lights blackouts, a big ass system, and redid the exhaust so it was somewhat bearable. good luck with yours

Oak.. The 87 is the last year for the throttle body (I think) If I were you I would get a motor from these guys... the Cougar motor is a low compression/ emission friendly motor.

Go here and order a catalog or I can scan in the Ford motor pages for you.

See! That's how you beat insurance companies! Geez it's not that hard. :)

Anyway , good job if you drop the 5.0 in. If not then that's a shitty ride! Get that bitch in the 11's N/A and have some fun brother ! Remember Tranny/rearend are your worst enemies right now. Replace those parts ASAP, and what's your thoughts on the Tranny? Stick or Auto?

It's better to Drive then to Ride ( Stick vs Auto) IMO.

What year is the cougar's engine that your dropping in to your 87' FOX BODY?

see since im buying the cougar and its auto ill have to get a manual tranny that fits the 5.0,the engine in the cougar isnt the original its out of a 90 mustang and the rear end is aswell,if i piece the two together it will be a mean car

dballer, you think that would be a good plan,i wanted standard for the acceleration ,but im open to input from other car guys

i got a 96 GT, had it for 5 years, bought it new, ran the hell out of it and it runs better than it did the day i got it, great fucking cars and tons of aftermarket parts everywhere for them!!

I drag race cars... that is what I do. Race cars is almost all I think about. So believe me when I tell you that nobody uses manuals anymore for going really fast really quick.

Chanhe the shift points in the auto and buy yourself a stall converter... and you will have a fast as hell car!!!

Autos are good for bracket racing but if you want something thats fun to drive Id go with the stick..Id much rather drive a stick...

I'VE HAD 5 MUSTANGS. ALL OF THEM WERE THE 87-93 BODY STYLE. ALL WERE 5.0'S. THEY ARE FUN CARS BUT I GREW OUT OF RACING THEM. STILL HAVE MY 93 THOUGH.

Oak-Thats a shitload of work you are undertaking. The mags say fuckit and buy a 5litre. There is a shitload of stuff to do to a 302 though. Best dollar for dollar buy for a young bro. I got a 2.3 turbo for my four banger Stang for $275. 225 horse like the 5.0 and it too is a starting point.

if you go with the auto you can add a stall speed torque converter for faster take offs!! RADAR

you should have looked around some. there are a million of those 87-93 5.0's out there, and there cheap as hell, like a couple grand. everyone wants 94+. to convert a 4cyl, to a v-8 will cost some good money, and be a pain in the ass. are you gonna do it your self, or have it done. anyways would have saved you lots of headache if you would have bought a 5.0 to begin with.

Just thought of someting Oak. Why don't you go to a junkyard and get a 460. It would be easier, believe it or not.

i do plan to do all this myself,i have a buddy who just graduated and is a apprentice mechanic and said he would help since im helping him build his nova,a 460 would be nice but im not sure if it will fit a stang

There is a guy with a 91 GT with a 460 in it. If you really plan to do all of this yourself.. PM me and I can help you find the sources. I will also help you find all of the mounts... I would really stick with the automatic if you plan on making it into a drag-style car. If you want to run around on the streets all the time.. I would still go with the auto. Manuals are a blast.. but missing a shift can mean the motor.
If you plan on doing this... it is ALOT of work.. you might as well go with a mountain motor. Forget a damn little 302. Remember this Mr. Oak... "There is no replacement for displacement."

DONT LISTEN TO DBALLER. HE ACTS AS IF HE HAS A FAST CAR OR SOMETHING!!!

Kayne.. when are you coming out of the swanp and heading up here to check out some real Georgia Bracket Racing?? I will put your ass up for a weekend here and pay for you to get in.... you just keep the air pressure at 10lbs in my slicks!!!! HAHAHAAA

Oak, a 460 is an easy fit with all the kits out. Buy a mag and look at the ads. You can get the headers from summit and an oil pan from a truck from the junkyard, buy or make the motor mounts and YOU ARE THE MAN. Seriously though, while we are giving you way too much to think about.......a 351W with Cleveland or modified heads will fit easier. Dude, no shit, do the 302, the shit is in the junkyard if it aint on the car. Don't spend shit on it or you're fucking yourself. It won't be worth shit when you are done unless you spend a mint Build it and beat it to death

im going to price out a 460 and see if i can get a tranny to fit,and ill run the stand with the 4 in it until i get the 460 rebuilt to the way i want it
