Boiling an Egg

eggs in cold water, bring to rapid boilfor a minute, turn off and let sit for several minutes.

Well, I think I effed up, because I put them in boiling water and they are bouncing up and down.

Excerpt from http://www.goodegg.com/boiledegg.html

1. Place eggs in a saucepan with enough COLD tap water to cover completely by 1 inch. Bring to a ROLLING boil over HIGH heat. Once the water is brought to a rolling boil, PROMPTLY reduce heat to a lower medium boil and cook an additional 10 minutes for a “hard boiled” egg. For a “soft boiled” egg reduce the time by a few minutes.

2. Remove from heat and IMMEDIATELY place eggs under ice cold water or in a bowl of ICED water to chill promptly to help yolks stay bright yellow. Chill for a few minutes in the cold water until the egg is completely cooled. This is an extremely important step which prevents the greenish “ring” from forming on the surface of the yolk over time. If the egg is not chilled immediately after cooking an unsightly dark greenish ring will eventually appear on the outside of the yolk.

3. To peel...crack on all sides, roll egg between hands to loosen shell, and remove shell. Enjoy while still warm, with a light sprinkling of salt if desired.

To serve in egg cup, place egg in cup small end down, slice off large end of egg with knife or egg scissors and eat from shell with spoon.

Refrigeration is necessary for hard boiled eggs if they eggs are not to be consumed within a few hours.

you put eggs into pan, cover with cold water, put on stove. once the water BEGINS to boil, you let ut boil for 10 mins (no more otherwise they are overcooked AKA green in the yoke). then you remove and rinse/soak in cold water until the eggs are cooled off. they should be perfect. the yolks should be yellow with NO green.

thanks ladies, I guess it doesn't matter if I over-cook since I'm throwing the yoke away.
I love those underwear. All men should wear those. Were you saying something? I forgot. LOL.

It puts the yoke in teh basket and does as it's told.

Southern Slam bro. gotta have those biscuits and gravy.
Rofl...that would be a one way ticket to the fatty express for me...lol.

I would like you all to know, that they came out perfect! No green on the yoke all yellow. I am such a chef, perhaps I can strike out on my own now.

Big demand for yolkless boiled eggs in Boston?

Put them in cold water (if they're cold and you put them in hot water, most will crack), put the pan on the stove, bring water to boil, shut off, let them sit for a few (5 to 7) minutes and viola!

Do I boil the water first and put the eggs in after its boiled, or put them in before its boiled?

Why?

He wanted home made eggs. If he was going to order out you might have a point.

one more thing, do not, I repeat, DO NOT, let it start to boil, then forget about it and fall asleep. All the water will evaporate and the eggs will start to burn on the bottom of the pan and make a black nasty mess that smells awefull!!

Whiskey

Dude ... put that thing away.

boil the water first, then toss in the eggs from 10 feet. that's 2 points.

beyond 15 feet and you're shooting 3s.
