Body's reaction to a cheat meal

Im new here and started working out and eating very clean about 3 to 4 weeks ago. So far the results have been great. Havent lost any weight on the scale but am able to fit into suits and jeans that havent fit in years. The fat loss around the waist is very noticable. Thanks for everyone's advise on all the posts...but...

Last night my wife and I went out for a belated anniversary dinner. Looking at the menu it killed me to eat this crap but opted for a nice porterhouse steak, large salad and garlic mashed potatoes. Getting back home I felt like crap. I could literally feel the salt taking effect on my body in my feet and hands. This morning its like my body is trying to get rid of this stuff asap...if you know what I mean... :)

Anyone else experience adverse reactions to thier cheat meals?

I do but I contributed it to guilt but I am sure there is more to it than that. If I have a cheat meal I get bloated and truely never enjoy it like I thought I would and alwasy wish that I didn't do it. Most the time I do it is always out of convience. Last night I was out and starving...my son wanted Taco Bell so I think I did pretty good though, 1 chicken soft taco with lettuce only. The guy looked at me and said "no cheese, that is weird"....but I was good :) and no tummy ache

I get it with certain foods like pizza etc only a few weks back i had to go to bed after eating it. I try and stick to real meals as a cheat meal say a italian resteraunt or steak with a bottle of wine or something like that seems to work better for me than shitty takeaway/fast food.

I hear that...I have been there so many times...I used to be at 4%-6% BF when I wrestled, I could keep high protein diet for 4 months...feel like shit but I did it. When the season got over it was pizza and chocolate milk for weeks...went from 171lbs @ 5% BF to 235lbs @14% BF in 5 months...I felt like absolute crap from eatign any fats...I'm talkgin terrible headaches, cramps, and other pains I can't describe, maybe that was the 500mg of test i was injecting? LMAO

damn, steak and garlic mashed potatoes are a cheat meal for you?! I would hate to live in your world...

I tend to feel/get bloated with cheat meals.....drink a lot of water during/afterwards....

If you've been eating very clean for a good while, the sudden consumption of all those carbs and heavy fats would cause a rapid decrease in your metabolic rate, resulting in a feeling of sluggishness and fatigue. By the time you get this, you'll probably be feeling better. Anytime that you go for a cheat meal, depending on what and how much of it you eat, it will slow you down, but if you continue to eat clean, your body will purge itself of that cheat meal and it's effects in about 24 hours or so. Happens to me every week on Saturday when I go to cheat on my nutrition.

When I did my first cheat meal after 3 weeks of NOTHING but clean foods and my body went into shock. My body cannot react well to grease for some reason and after 3 weeks without it, it gave me the finger. It was a Dairy Queen Chicken Strip basket, I like them I know they are really bad lay off, and my body said Out Heaten. And casted it out after the course of my work day and several bathroom breaks.

But on a good note, I don't eat THAT bad as a cheat meal now but my body reacts very well to them. I do a job where I can work out the meal over the night and it sends me into a frenzy of energy. One time I didn't have hardly any carbs for 3 days straight for some reason, really low amounts. Ate a Foot Long Honey Oat Roasted CHicken with 2 choc chip cookies, went to work and had a cup and half of raw oats to add in on the carbs to see what I could do. I took my Ephedrine and people thought I was doing meth. I sweat a lot anyways, but I was moving like a blur all night. I <3 carbs.

I don't follow. This is the first time I have ever heard/read anything about eating 'unclean' would cause a decrease in metabolism..you have the link to where you read that?

There isn't any specific website where I read it. It's just one of many things I've learned about nutrition in the past three years.

To expand on what I was saying, anytime you eat a large meal your body has to work harder to digest, and in that process, one's metabolic rate decreases. That being said, the heavier the meal the more it slows down one's metabolism.

Don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying that that is the only possibility. I'm just saying, in my opinion, that's the most likely possibility, especially when considering the effect glucose has on the metabolic rate once it gets into the blood stream.

i dont know about that one....i got to school for nutrition and i have YET to hear that one. More food = your body has to maintain homeostasis. More food = More surface area for your digestive enzymes to work on....

I always felt like it SPEEDs up the metabolism, i get hot, sweaty, clammy when i eat a big cheat meal. Never really feel sluggish unless its just TOO much FOOD for the stomach to handle.

I think the slugguinesh is caused by the insulin spike no?
I feel like mike when I eat cheat meals: excessively hot. Nonetheless, when I eat an extremely carb-filled meal (such as a huge bowl of pasta etc) I usually feel very sleepy afterwards, due to insulin spike.

=)

Honestly - it was probably just a reaction to salt and dairy - which is totally normal especially if you are very clean in your food choices. I get the same thing - you can watch my hands and ankles swell up - time and lots of water will help get you back to normal.

I do find that steak will sometimes just sit like a brick for days and other times I will wake up the next day starving.

You can try dandelion root - it may help you with the salt/water retention.

Me too.

I actually have a 15 lb window that I vary in weight - it used to be closer to 20lb but it comes off as quickly as it comes on.

It not as bad as it seems - if you drink more than a gallon of water (1 gall = 8lbs) and say you didn't work out or you've eaten something that typically bloats you - it's really easy to tip the scales higher 10lbs at any given time.
