For me, keeping the bodyfat down is tough. I usually find that I am in the 11-14% range. I wold love to be in single digits but it is hell for me to get there. What are most of you carrying?
 
i'm at about 25%. i could give you a few excuses of course and i could tell you what i used to be, but i'm past that.
 
How do you guys check your body fat. I know there are a couple of ways, but what are the easiest, which ones do you use and where do you have them done?

I'm at 18%, which is high for me, but great for strength and putting on size. It's been over a year since I "cut" and almost 4 years since I was in the 8% range. Since then, I've put on about 30-40 pounds of muslce, so I think I will dip down around 12% this summer just to see what's under all this pudge.
 
spatts, 18% is pretty damn tight for a woman, if you're carrying pudge anywhere I'd like to see it(seriously.....)

You know, it's hard to see. I'm desperately trying to reach the 181 weight class, and my body is NOT wanting to give up 10 pounds. I am 4 weeks out, and not budging...on the same diet that took me to 8% in 16 weeks a couple times before. I increased the cals, and dropped a couple pounds, so maybe I'll see some more progress this week. I'd like to hit 175, which would be about 15% for me.
 
wouldnt being that low if bf negatively affect your strength?
 
Well, if I take it slow, it shouldn't. It hasn't so far. I have only come down about 5 pounds though. I would like to hit the 175-178 range, weigh in under 181, and then carb load to about 185-190...that's the easy part. :D

Wow, u went to 8%? Holy shit, weren't you exhausted?
I'm sitting around 13% now and I"m starting to feel a little drained.( I imagine my crazy work hours don't help that either!) I imagine 8% was for a show was it not?
My metabolic rate is quite high so I stay pretty low in fat percentage all year round. I can't even imagine being at 8% and still having the energy to get up in the morning.
 
Oh, I was 8% long enough for the flash to go off, then it was pizza time. lol....no way. Not for me! :D
 
15% today on the hydrostatic test. That's at 6'1 234lbs.. Attempting 260 @ 15 % by April for my first power meet, then trim down for my first BB contest in Sept. I will not win either, but I'm going to have alot of fun with my friends.

My wife stores fat in that typical manner...though she doesn't lift ...her abs show slightly ...but her lage and ass have too much fat...If my abs carried as low of an amount of fat as hers does , I would be at 8% same for her compared to my legs ...as it is here is a picture of me at 12.63% weighing 234 ...I am 242 right now ...and just as cut ...in fact had to buy pants the other day with a waist size as small as when I weighed 210!

Funny I know we're all reporting our BF but depending on the method of calculation (on a large variety of pinch & tape tests), it varies greatly.

For Canadians: Health Canada's (feds) formula rates BF much higher than what our american friends to the south use. Currently I use a variety of caliper/pinch & tape measures and the american versions I rate at about 11, or 12 %. When I use Health Canada's revised "scientific" formula I come out at 16%. Two months ago I was at about 13-14% by the former and 19% by the latter. I'm using some high end calipers too so I know my measurements are bang on - I also average every reading over 3 measurements.

So HOW you measure it is bound to affect drastically the actual percentage in your head. Without dunking ourselves in water, or spending $$ on some more accurate gadget thingy. It's all really shooting in the dark and just relative as far as progress goes.

I would be curious as to those that compete what kind of standard formula is used in the competitions?

Any comments?
 
I'm at 18.5% using calipers. This is still pretty chubby for me since I'm only 5'3". Wt. is 145-150. I can't see any abs. but I can feel them. :) I'd probably have to be around 13% to begin to see any abs.
 
It depends how it is measured. When doing a biceps/triceps/pecs/abs/quad skinfold measure I get between 3.5% and 5.5% . When doing a combination that includes lower back, I get quite a bit higher, sometimes almost twice as much.

11%-- calipers
13.8%-- hydrostatic weighing

personally-- I think most methods are bogus... you can throw off the dunk tank by eating carbs b4 you measure & caliper measurements are effected by the person measureing you.... maybe bio-impedence is more accurate???
 
Any method which measures bodyfat as a percentage can never be too accurate.... every time you (or a computer) has to put the data into a formula to establish a percentage, you can be throwing it off significantly.

Having said that, I measured 15.2% yesterday and that felt about right. In mid-January I was down below 9%....

I've gained 10lbs this week.
 
I have no idea of my body fat percentage. Its not too high, but its not low either. No freaky definition, but no gut. I'd be comfortable topless at the beach right now, and I'm vain as hell.

I love my food too much to get really low, because that's all it takes - strict control of what I put into my mouth. It'd be better for my performance on the pitch if I did drop maybe 5lbs of fat, though I think I'll save that for pre-beach holidays and just be content with where I am fat-wise, because I want to keep putting on some functional muscle.
 
i think im around 20% but ive never had it tested. its all in my torso, which sucks, love handles are outta control :(

I was just thinking that. I'm anywhere around 18-21% done with calipers. I'm up to about 157-158 right now which on the heavy side for me. My 10 week training cycle starts on Aug. 3, so I have plenty of time to get back down, but I like training closer to my comp weight.
 
Id say Im around 7-8%. I never know for sure though bc if I use accumeasures 1 site method I come out way to low but when I go to the 3 site I come out a little higher (probably the best estimate) but if I use electric impedence its always way off. Ill caliper at around 7% with a 3 site and then test 23% on the electric impedence. All I know is Ive never not had a solid 6 pack so I guess im usually under 10.
 
with calipers about 20%, feels like more. 39-40" waist(depending on what i've ate) at 5'11" just seems toofat. Carrying 265 lbs is getting kinda tough, probably going to ckd down to 235 by october.
 
down to around 8%, 210-215lbs, still a ways to go...
 
6-7%......at 6'2 and feel wayyyy too damn skinny....hard time getting it up without the conscious stepping in.....sucks!

Dang, 10% and all those buffets! Oh, how I envy you male lifters! I sure wish females could as easily take the "see food" diet approach and remain as lean. ;)

Woe is me, I shall have to bulk with way more restraint than I'd like to, lol.
 
Around 10%, I can somewhat see my abes (when I have a nice six pack, I caliper between 6 and 7%, holding a little water from the high sodium intake of eating 5000+ cals. 5'9" 230 currently, doing a clean bulk.

I'm right at 11 or 12%. I'm sort of maintaining my weight right now. Even when I bulk though, I don't really get past 13%, my body doesn't let me. :D

Haven't checked properly in years- prolly bout 15-18 or maybe 19 .....craP!
 
I typically do not go pver 12% duinrg the year...just keep a watch on diet - no cardio
 
Those of you who are guessing.......I'll bet you are off by a minimium of 3-4%.......unless you have had it done hydro or MRI style, your guess are surely skewed
 
I know this is a vague question but I never had my BF tested but I have a question.
I have a full 6 pack and have a pretty decent cut on my obliques when flexed, what would BF would that put me at?

But I also have a bit of fat on my lower abs I mean you can still me my bottom 2 abs but there is a stubborn bit of fat below that, any suggestions on how to lose that?

I just started with cardio but I think it is my carbs and soduim intake....

Since it is bulking time for me I am at 15-16%. When I cut down it is to 9-10%. I wont be doing that until after summer. I never get above 16 though, I like to see at least 4 abs :)
 
I used one of those hand testers and I laughed when it read 22%! This from having veins in my abs, very vascular in the quads, delts and forearms. LOL
 
i sit around 8-10% simply because i cant stand lookin at myself in tyhe mirror and not seeing perfect abs.. im way too self-conscious to be over 10%... id probably starve myself until i was skin and bone...
