best postworkout protein powder

rez

New member
ive always bought low-zero carb shakes. Now i am wanting one with carbs for post weight training...

what are your favourites, whats the protein/carb/fat content and and what type of carbs do they contain

THANKS PPL:D :D

What I use is 2 scoops of whey protein which is about 45 grams of protein and 2 scoops of dextrose which is about 65 grams of carbs. I wouldn't recommend any of this stuff out on the market because alot of it adds fructose to the mix. On top of that it'll be cheaper in the end mixing your own drink. Oh and fat intake is about 5 grams.

is there a brand of dextrose u buy? how much would i need to take if i weigh 106 pounds? or does that not matter?

for protein i just focus on 100% whey postworkout and get the cheap as possible, gnc 100% whey protein is pretty cheap, 50$ for 1 tub of 87 servings, then it is also buy one get one half off, and if you have a gold card the 1st 7 days of each month 20% off, so for 174 servings you only have to pay around 60-65$. i get my dextrose at supplementdirect.com also as said above.

have u seen good results fro women taking dextrose and hi gi carbs postworkout? Wondering if there are differences in muscle gain between men and women taking it..

Go to the Protein Factory. Find out exactly how much you wanna spend and what your goals are. Then, make your own formula. It'll be cheaper than just about any place.

I use Optimum. It is very convinient for me. Many have their opinions. I recently bumped it up to two scoops per shake. It is yummy.

GNC = Get Nothing Cheap

General aNnoyance Center's protein is pretty cheap but I've found that unless I'm mixing it up, it has a pretty flat taste and feel to it. What I mean by that has to be experienced. Try something like Isopure's Zero Carb protein, or EAS Vanilla Ice Cream flavor proteins and you'll see that GNC's using some borderline nasty artificial flavoring.

What I mean by borderline nasty is this: if it doesn't taste so yummy that you are not always automatically thinking about its taste, then it's probably nasty and you've just gotten used to tolerating nasty tastes as long as there's a 'hint' of chocolate to help it go down. So when I think of Metr-X, peanut butter flavor MRP, or EAS Strawberry, the first thing that comes to mind is not protein count, but flavor.

GNC has good protein count, good price if you fall for...i mean, take their, BOGO (Buy One Get One half price) and use the card. If you call up their customer service line and complain about something, they'll send you a coupon you can use too. If you're going to complain about things you don't care about too much, at least make them valid points so they're getting something for the $3-$5 they're sending you.

Budget and non-Budget picks:

Budget:
Protein- www.proteinfactory.com (possibly GNC if I can stomach it)
Dextrose- same (use Gatorades to supplement the supply, not replace it)
Glutamine- www.netrition.com ($44/kilo) compare GNC ($47, half kilo)

non-Budget
Protein- Isopure Zero Carb, or Met-Rx APM{SP?} @GNC
Dextrose- more Gatorade if not on budget.

ciao,

B

fantastic! thanks B...will do sum investigating ;)

Biotest Surge is pretty good, although a bit pricy. Plus I hate giving TC Luoma and Co my money.

1 serving contains:
50g dextrose
25g hydrolyzed whey
5g BCAAs
3g glutamine

I drink an Isopure (40g whey protein, 25g carbs, 0 fat), and also drink 12oz grape juice.

Reason #2

Hey, great idea!

That'll be the #2 reason for having grape juice in my fridge for when the girlfriend comes over. Reason #1.....not appropriate here. lol

GNC has a similar product in their recent line of protein powders. I'm not sure of the carbs, but the other stuff is virtually the same. There's only 14 servings, I think, per bottle and it's BOGO, buy one get one half price. And I've always said it's 20% of on Gold Card days, and 30% off if you're boning one of the girls who works there.

It's called Distance.

But it doesn't use hydrolyzed whey, which is Surge's raison d'etre. Also it has 100g carbs and only 14g protein. It's more aimed at endurance athletes and is a knock-off of Endurox.

I see

Alright, I have to be more careful. Most of the bros I know are emotional types--but occasionally, I run into the real precise, scientific type and it reminds me to be really clear on what I'm saying.

When I said GNC had a similar product, I was referring to what I considered the essential ingredients: whey, bcaa and glutamine. In that case, it is similar. I figured Dextrose can be added from anywhere....such as pixie sticks even. The fact that it isn't hydrolized doesn't concern me because tomorrow will bring a new discovery that 'hydrolized' is no longer the best, but twice-baked, micronized, sawdust-rubbed, camel-stomped protein will be.

So I hope we're on the same page now. Pour a few pixie sticks into your Mega Whey shake and, hydrolized or not, we're doin ok. ;)

Go to the protein factory and check out the "recovery formula". A much better price formula of Biotests Surge. I'd love to use Surge but the price is ridiculous!!
