Benzyl Alcohol and injection pain

Well, last night I took one for the team.

I was doing an unrelated experiment last night and was attempting to make a 1% BA solution with sterile water. I screwed it up and accidentally created a 10% solution. Before fixing it I did a bit of an experiment. I sterilized the solution and injected myself with it. I then diluted it to 7% and injected myself with that too.

Both times I injected 1ml into each quad. The injections were painless but got PIP within an hour of injection. Felt about as bad as when I first injected standard strength (250mg/ml) testosterone enanthate into virgin muscle - sore like a bad bruise but not debilitating. By morning there was no pain at all. The 7% injection was a little less sore than the 10%.

It surprised me - I was expecting it to sting but it didn't. Also, the pain wore off quickly so I don't believe that high levels of BA contribute much to the long lasting PIP of steroid injections.

Just thought I'd share ..

I like your way of thinking...I read a while back a report about how some pharmaceutical Testosterone had up to 10% BA and users reported no problem. In the report they mention the brand name and lab of the Testosterone used. After reading it I was always curious about how much we easily accept ideas that have gathered traction, rather than scientific data.

Benzyl alcohol actually has considerable local anaesthetic properties, so it should actually reduce pain, at least in short term.

Benzyl alcohol as an alternative local anesthe... [Ann Emerg Med. 1999] - PubMed - NCBI
Comparative effectiveness of benzyl alcohol 0.9% as a local anaesthetic for minor plastic surgery procedures - Springer

There are plenty of others. Neither of the two studies I linked were deep intramuscular injections, but I would think the effect should be similar.

Thanks for the input. I think it has become a misunderstanding, perpetuated like many things on the forums.

Well I found that it did give me pip at both 10% and 7% but that it took some time to develop - i.e. no sting, and was gone within 8 or so hours. So far, I believe its the actual hormone that causes the real pip pip. Next time I cook I will do a small amount of just plain oil + Benzyl Benzoate at 20% or so to see if that causes any pip at all.

One thing I discovered early on, especially in fitness and bodybuilding, is that 1) People talk in absolutes, and 2) They parrot second hand information as gospel. I once had a science geek friend who said that experiments were what you did to prove your theories wrong :) My approach is to question everything.

Also another interesting observation was that I had pip down near my knee even though I injected high in my quad. I suspect the water ran down and pooled and inflamed that area.

Bro that could not be more true! I try not to comment on anything I have not personally experienced, and I also think to question everything.

When I first started brewing I wondered about things like Test Prop at 200mg/ml or 150mg/ml, why cant you....well I found out quick why. But at least I can tell you what happens to the mix and at what point.

People fought for years on the strict formula of BA/BB ratios and I wondered why? So I mixed at a ton of ratios and found what I liked.

I think its best to try and fail, or try and succeed but have the experience to talk.

Yeah that happened to me before also...kinda freaky but goes away in a couple days. I am not a big fan of quad injections.

That seems reasonable...I'd imagine the anaesthetic properties would wear off, and then is the PIP. Still not too sure that it is the cause of it, but different people may be more or less sensitive to different things. (ie: I love EO, but some people have big problems with it)

Considering it was just sterile stilled water + BA I don't know what else it could be but I do agree that everyone's sensitivity may be different.

BTW just have to say, ox-sandra-loan, I love your nick.
