beer and training

i like beer and i like hanging out socializing with friends while drinking a few. i like to have 1-2 beers at night. and on weekends maybe drink no more than a 6 pack. i feel this is pretty moderate drinking.
do you think this amount of drinking will hinder gains. i dont feel that is does cause when i go out i eat wings or something with a lot of protein and usually eat at dennys or something before going to bed.
i dont think it matters at all when natural, but what about while on. i am about to start a summer cycle and wondering if i need to cut back?

Are you fucking serious?

Yeah bro I think he is. I actually have alot of friends like this. Alot of my big bulky bouncer friends who do this type of shit and are not on point. Just wanna be BIG and BULKY with no regards to health or getting the most outta there cycle. Luckily, im not around that as much anymore since I don't bounce anymore and don't go out as much either. Hehehe.

Havin a few beers every now and then is inevidable for me. But I try to keep it at a minimum cause I know it fucks up your gains. I dont plan on drinking at all this weekend.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with going out and drinking. But don't try to convince yourself you're not paying a price.

Chicken wings for protein? For the most part skin soaked in liquefied fat? Not on any BBer's menu.

Same thing I was thinking about bro. I bet he is a bouncer now that I think about it. Are you from Jersey?? Denny's?? Same place we used to go after working late at night. LOL I remember the crap eating days. Im through with that shit. Once and for all. Although cheat meals are acceptible here and there. Hehehe. ;)

A six pack and a bucket of wings for protein.....?????

Yeah, you should cut back. And yeah it matters, on or off cycle. Sheesh. You need to choose your vice, dude. Six packs and wings and shit do not mix with juice. If not, you are wasting your time, your health, and your money.

I'd chill on the beers and other drugs while on cycle man. cmon now you really want something to hold your gains back when you spent all this money/time/effort on it??? i dont think so.

gave you the wrong impression. there are so many weekends that i turn down going out with friends cause i dont want to drink. i love to do it, but love working out too.
i eat so clean and good diet very high in protein and efa's. so the wings are a cheat meal. what i meant by this is eating wings and denny's is better than not eating. so that is when i usually cheat when it involves a good time with friends.
and no i am not a bouncer. i am an ectomorph with 6 % bf. so calories from cheat meal and beer arent a huge problem. just wondering about drinking a few while on?
i dont drink everyday. usually just 1-2 3 times a week. and maybe six pack on weekend. i am young and like to have good time. sure i am not alone there. there has to be some balance.

I agree that drinking should affect gains but think people need to see that having a few beers once a week is not going to be the difference between gaining nothing and gaining 20 ibs lets put things into some perspective.

I just started my first cyle I shot 500 sus and 400 eq the first week, so it hasnt hit me yet but i have already had to turn down numerous friends from going out and drinking, they think something is wrong with me and give me the old "ok ya pussy". But i just want to get the most from the gear and i may bread down and have a sixer by the pool but hopefully not to often.

could be

Dorian Yates has a beer every day for its yeast and other things plus i guess he gets a buzz.
One a day is not the same as a sixpack, because alcohol has a tendency to dehydrate a person pretty much like too much coffee.
Pretty much bodybuilding should be viewed.( by those really serious) as either a first or second wife or girlfriend. When we are with one of them we are unfaithful to the other.
AT times we may grow stale in the relationship and do things that
may hurt them and us, When we love what we do , we do what we love to do. All I am saying is be true to yourself.
One more thing is that with bodybuilding you feel good always, except for natural reasons and with drinking and/or drugging with pay the next day or week or year.

peace bro.

Slim, I guess you missed Fonz's post on alcohol. So here it is.

Why alcohol is anathema to bodybuilding.....

Studies on the time-course of ethanol's acute effects on skeletal muscle protein synthesis: comparison with acute changes in proteolytic activity.

Reilly ME, Mantle D, Richardson PJ, Salisbury J, Jones J, Peters TJ, Preedy VR.

Department of Clinical Biochemistry, King's College School of Medicine and Dentistry, London, United Kingdom.

A study of the effects of ethanol on skeletal muscle protein synthesis and protease activities was carried out in young male Wistar rats (150 g) for up to 24 hr after a single intraperitoneal dose of 75 mmol of ethanol/kg of body weight. At 20 min, the mean blood ethanol levels were 448 mg/dl. This level dropped steadily to zero through the following 24 hr.

So, this study basically looks at the effects of ethanol 24 hours
after drinking it.

Compared with pair-fed controls, significant reductions in total protein, RNA, and DNA contents were seen only after 24 hr in all skeletal muscles studied: changes were more marked in the muscles containing large proportions of type II fibers. In plantaris muscle, the fractional rate of protein synthesis (ks, %/day) did not fall 20 min after dosage but was reduced after 1 hr by 23% (p < 0.001), and by 63% after 24 hr, compared with control saline-injected rats (p < 0.001).

So, let us see.......23% reduction in protein synthesis after
1 hr and 63%!!!! after 24 hours.

This effect was independent of dietary intake because,

VERY IMPORTANT: Effect was independent of dietary intake.
SO, even with a PERFECT diet, ethanol still wreaks HAVOC
with your bodies anabolicity.

compared with the pair-fed group, the 24-hr ethanol-treated rats still showed a 52% decrease in fractional rates of protein synthesis (p < 0.001). Smaller reductions in ks were seen in soleus muscles in response to ethanol at 24 hr (-39%, p < 0.001). The activities of a variety of lysosomal and nonlysosomal proteases in plantaris muscle of 24-hr treated rats were not significantly affected by ethanol. Only alanyl- and tripeptidyl-aminopeptidase activities were reduced significantly (26%, p < 0.05 and 39%, p < 0.01, respectively). These results suggest that the muscle compositional changes seen over acute periods of ethanol toxicity are predominantly associated with impaired synthesis of protein and that the contribution of cellular proteolytic systems may be minimal.

Again,

The effects of ethanol on skeletal muscle protein metabolism are greater in muscles containing a predominance of type II fibers than in those containing mainly type I fibers.

Type II fibers= LARGE muscle fibers for TRAINING.
Type I=Fast twitch for activities like walking.

Ethanol's effects on muscle may be influenced by hormonal changes after 24 hr, because protein synthesis is still compromised and free plasma T3 and corticosterone are altered at this time-point.

Even worse, ethanol causes a HORMONAL shift. It increases
estrogen through the up-regulation of the aromatase enzyme,
lowers testosterone, increases cortisol and to boot reduces
free T3 levels.

So, the next time you go drinking go for some non-alcoholic
drinks if on cycle. Or use an alcohol replacer.

If you drink, and wonder why you don't grow, well......
read and learn then, because this is for you.

Good luck

Rumor has it Arnold drank dark ale for it's carbs. I don't drink at all, haven't in five years for different reasons, but I don't think alcohol is beneficial at all. I'd think smoking weed, but weed is hell on the lungs.

Chicken Wings for protien, get as much protien eating pussy, which is a better meal.

And Denny's is fat city.

I went out with some friends back home to a sports bar, they were all drinking and eating barfood. I ordered me up a steak, tripped them out but I was hungry and it's my favorite meal. Can't find any good steak houses here in MD. Place is all about crabs.

It's definately hard to stay away from, but I think you should stay away from drinking while training. I've seen a lot of my boys drinking while on cycles, everything seems fine but when they come off cycle, bellies gallore!
