Beer and Protein???

I have read about how alcohol consumption hinders protein senthesis. My question, is having a few beers with the bros on a weekend going to do that much damage? Or does this apply to those that like to go get wasted on the weekends? I like to have a beer or two everynow and then, when I start my first cycle I will stay away from alcohol totally to avoid uneccessary strain on the liver. But I just wanted some thoughts on this.

i agree. even a few have fucked my gains up. i also used to chew all the time and that hindered my gains too, which most people dont feel it does, but for me it made me really weak. id like to hear some opinions on dip and its effects on gains.

I love me some beer! So much so that I had to get rid of my keg-orator. I, along with a few good bro's were killing a half keg every 3 weeks.

I don't drink at all during the week when I'm on AS but will throw a few back on the weekend. Hell, its football season and I have season tickets to the Redskins! We're at the stadium 4 hours before kickoff and start throwing them back as soon as we get [past the stadium attendants!

i believe the last post someone made of this was best put..Your body shouldnt event except alcohol so the body is to busy trying to remove the poison out of your system so theres no time for it to do much more then that..Something like that you get the picture....Bottom line you have to decide do i want the look or the buzz...Smoke pot your will get better pumps!

alcohol and aas don't mix but every now and then throwing a few down is alright as long as its not a twelve pack.

Negatively effects the oxygen carrying capacity of your red blood cells. . .decreased oxygen = decreased fatigue threshhold.

I must be the exception. I can drink vodka 2-3 times a week and still gain strength. Even while cutting.

i think a couple of dark beers on the weekend wont hurt anything i just wont have more than two beers a week

One or two drinks a day actually stimulates free-flowing tests. levels. More than that your tests. levels go down the toilet. Read that in MD mag. some time ago. But not if your are on a cycle. forget it.

I been chewing a can a day for 24yrs . I dont think it effects my gains . But I never quit long enought to see if it does.

I grew up in a farming community, if you had a dick between your legs you chewed snuff. I put it away (pretty much) a few years ago.

Try it and see what happens. I bet you'll be surprised. I still chew once in a while, usually if I'm having a few beers which, lately, ain't that often. Too many other things going on, plus I never touch booze when I'm supplementing. . .period.

The problem is I just cant chew once in awhile I tried. I tried quitting a few times over the years. The longest was 3 months, starting chewing the nicotine gum worked good but I was hooked on the gum and that shit wasn't cheap. Went out one night had a few beers and thought 1 chew wouldn't hurt WRONG! I might give it another try in the future. Bad habit to start!

Don't mess with booze when on cycle, when off, have some fun, just make sure that you get all of you're meals in a half hour to an hour before you start drinking.

I dip, i started when I was in HS.. freshman year,Somehow ended up as starting LB on the V Squad the last 3 games...anyway most all the Vsquad dipped at the time (mid 80"s btw) so i did too..havn't really tried to stop, i know i should. I will take a drink here and there, which i believe is way worse for gains than dipping. JMO

I must be different cuz, I do go out and party maybe twice a week and drinking does not affect me at all...The next day in the gym I am stronger than the week before....I guess everyone is different.

Most of us are extremest in our personalities. Probably best stay away from alch all together. Hoewever, back in my "Frank Zane" days, It was common for me to drink a whole 40 oz of Budwieser Ten minutes before hitting the gym. It made me feel great! Probably the carbs and false sense of courage, but my lifts were heavier, longer and for more reps than if I had not drank. Oh, I smoked a cigerette with the beer too. Somtimes I'd have a follow up bomb shell after the workout. I'm not bragging, but I was among the best looking barheads in the gym.. We are talking back in 1985'sh, things were definately different back then. Now, I had to give up the booze about ten years ago, it became a problem, stopped smoking about then too, and, I look better now at fortyish than I did then, but damn, I sure was better with the girls in the gym back then, that's the only regret.

lollllllllllllll ^ thats funny

but anyway, yea.. i've even noticed just a beer or two will hinder my progress. it's fucking insane. so if you're gonna drink, i'd say do it proper and get good and smashed, just be prepared to lose some gains in the progress and set yourself back a week. it's just not worth it to me anymore.. a few drinks with my body is just as bad as getting trashed. this goes for both on and off aas. everybody is different tho.. i envy those of you who drinking doesn't affect.

Try throwing it in the freezer (to keep it fresh) and only using it on the weekends and see if your during-the-week workouts don't improve. Nothing drastic, just less fatigue and a couple of more reps on a heavy set.

A controversy has always existed regarding the damage versus the benefits of alcohol. Let me preface my discussion of the conflicting view points by stating that the best drink in the world is fresh water. It enables the body to absorb and convert all foods into nutrients and is essential to getting rid of waste products. Bear in mind that alcoholic beverages do not constitute part of your liquid intake because the fluid content is necessary to transport the alcohol itself. In addition, one shot of hard liquor, such as gin, rum, or vodka, requires an eight-ounce glass of water taken with it to prevent dehydration of muscle tissue.

Hard liquor is also high in calories due to its alcohol content, which converts to sugar in the body. Each shot contains approximately 100 calories with a carbohydrate value of 25 grams, which must be included in your minimum required intake of protein, carbohydrates, and fats.

Many individuals use hard alcohol to mask conflicts, escape, reality, or avoid coping with reality. In these instances, they bring on more serious problems, such as degenerative diseases of the heart, liver, and blood vessels. An excessive intake of alcohol cuts off the supply of oxygen to the brain, killing a large number of brain cells, which are irreplaceable because they are incapable of reproducing. Many people who drank excessively for over 25 years had brains that were four pounds lighter than normal. For theses reasons I do not recommend hard liquor.

Beer and wine, however, are favorable when consumed in moderation because they are lower in alcohol content and less sugar- concentrated. A full bottle of beer, for example, contains 70-120 calories, depending on whether it is light or regular beer. The alcohol content ranges between 3 and 6 percent, making it low in sugar, a prime consideration for bodybuilders.

The alcohol content of wine is about 18 percent for sweet and 12 percent for dry varieties. Four ounces of sweet wine contains approximately 70 calories; the same amount of dry wine has about 40 calories. During the last few years, research has shown that wine is one of the best drinks for promoting the digestion of fats and proteins because it contains over 300 enzymes. The drier the wine, the higher its content of enzymes. Beer contains only a few, derived mainly from brewer's yeast and malt barley.

In summary, the body well utilizes a small amount of alocholic beverages, which should be kept at a minimum, preferably limited to one four-ounce glass of wine with lunch and another with dinner.

If it didn't have alcohol, beer would be a health food and cost $5 per ounce at GNC.

Yeah. But, I'd probably take it home and use it as a mixer, so it would end up being beer again anyway. :)
