hey jenn,
get a big bottle of amino acid pellets. they are pretty nasty to chew up but you can keep them in a little bag and throw a few down at any time. I get Optimum's Amino 2222, which equals out to about 10g of protein per 4 pellets.
Plus they are pretty cheap, unlike beef jerky.
