BB's health when they retire?

Falklands

New member
After years of being on very high dosages since they were in their early 20's, what will happen to the health of Ruhl, Ronnie, Jay etc when they retire in their erly 40's? I mean, thats years of being "on" all the time. Is their health ruined? Is there any chance of getting their hormonal levels right, will they have kids, what about the GH gut etc?

well, my guess is that they are all in pretty bad shape when all is said and done. you could get your hormone levels back to normal with HRT, but on their own i'd say it is nearly impossible at that point.

as for kids, I would think that their sperm coutns would be too low for the most part to concieve a child. It all depends on the extent of abuse and whatnot. if you were administering HMG (not HCG!!) during the useage, you would most definetly be able to have kids. (HMG keeps FSH function in tact, which in term keeps the body producing sperm). of course you can use quite heavily and still have kids though -- arnold comes to mind. but there is a point when I beleive you could do permanent damage.

the GH gut is pretty brutal. you should see Dorian Yates nowadays. I had the oppurtunity to see him and after dropping down to 215-220 his gut is way out of proportion to the rest of him and it just looks plain gross.

these guys have bigger problems to worry about then having kids and GH guts though. there internal organs are undoubtably in terrible shape from years of high bloodpressure, bad cholesterol, and excessive diruetic useage (<< flex wheeler comes to mind here -- his diruetic useage cause most of his health problems).

Actually Flex Wheeler had a genetic condition from childhood, had nothing to do with his gear usage. Just like Tom Prince, his gear usage had nothing to do with his kidney failure, it was his abuse of simple, OTC ibuprofen that did it to him. I think some of these guys will be just fine, others will have severe problems... all depends on the person really.

I know he is a formal shell of himself

I have seen pics of Kevin Levrone and although he is MUCH smaller he still looks good

I don't know about wheeler and yates, but I think Levrone looks much better now than he did when he was competing.
Totally a judgement call, but he definitely looks better than the other guys who are out of the game. He just looks like an athlete.

Had a chat with two guys at our gym who told me they were spectators at a show in London last year. Some small out of condition guy was standing up, so they roared "Hey man, sit down we can't see". The guy turned around and it was none other than Dorian himself! They got talking to him and he was a true gentleman as expected, but said no way would you even guess he was once one of the best in the world.

You wouldn't even look twice at him, he is a shadow (pardon the pun) of what he used to be. Only the true fans will get my dumbass pun.

I get your Dumb-Ass pun but only because my BF explained it to me!!!!! :D

Now that I think of it, I read in an interview that Jay Cutler said he gets twice yearly doctor check ups to ensure his diet pills (LMFAO!!!) arent affecting his health and that he's been given a 100% clean bill of health so far.

That is really sad that he is all distorted now(Dorian)was one of my all time favorites. He was just a great bodybuilder on and off the stage imo.

Dorian got into going out clubbing quite a lot, (think he and his wife split up)was spotted in Miss Moneypenny's in Birmingham most weeks, off his head on E's, (etc)i suspect that has a lot to do with his current physical state too.

Hope thats talk not truth, but if it is true then I'm extremely sorry to hear that life hasn't been kind on Dorian recently.

Its not talk mate, saw him myself once, still looked a big guy (to me) but nowhere near his former self of course. And ive done enough E's in my past to know when someone is on one.

tbh EVERY person i know that takes, or has taken roids has also dabbled in E, coke etc. Seem to go hand in hand.

Well, I think there's plenty of irresponsible guys out there, no question. I also know of plenty of guys who got into BB to look good on a Saturday night, they they took AAS to push it out further, then thats not enough either, so they started taking E's to push it out further again.

Its important to stress that these guys are not to be confusd with the majority who are very dedicated and responsible when taking juice, but I agree with you that there's a worryingly sizeable minority (certainly here in The UK anyhow) who take more than just Sustanon. It seems to be mainly guys in their early 20's too.

I hope your refering to Ronnie Colman and the rest of these reckless drug abusing monsters. These guys I truely believe have fucked up their chances at ever leading a heathly life. Theres no way you can abuse all these drugs and then decide to quit and think your not going to run into serious consequences down the road. I know many of you competitive bodybuilders would like to think otherwise and deny the truth, but unfortunately abusing drugs like most bodybuilders do, is a very bad thing. All these bodybuilders say they lead a healthy life but taking supersychological levels of steroids, gh, igf, insulin, directics, sleep meds, pain killers, fat loss drugs, and the whole mess of other shit, IS NOT LIVING A HEATHLY LIFESTYLE! Sorry to have to say it, but its the truth. Shrinking back to 200lbs is the least of their worries.

i don't think you are going to find too many people who will disagree with you.

i would also have to say that most of the guys who ae in the big leagues (in terms of drug intake- this would include not only professionals and thos eat other competitive levels, but also some of the members of this board who have never competed at all) have accepted the risks and calculated that it is worth it. this may be a bad road to take, as you probably can't really appreciate your health until it is taken away from you.

competitive bodybuilding has nothing to do with health whatsoever- eating clean and getting plenty of sleep and cardio is inconsequential when you are administering supraphysiological amounts of drugs.

if you look at some of these guys in the offseason you can really see that they are not healthy individuals. big black circles around the eyes, discolored whites of the eyes, and red, bloated faces are clues that things aren't quite up to par internally.

i just don't think they care really. it's funny what the competitive side of bodybuilding does to you; how you can brush aside blatant signs of poor health in favor of getting huge and ripped. this is coming from my own personal experience as a heavy user in my 20's, albeit without insulin or hgh.

i know that when i first cleaned out 5 years ago i went through a very rough period; so bad that i turned to hard drugs to help me cope. i would imagine it took a good three years for my bloodwork to come back normal. i doubt things will ever go back to normal for the top shelf (and lower eschelons) of pro bodybuilders- HRT and treatment for diabetes are probably in order for the rest of their lives.

Brilliant post mate!, especially this bit-

"you probably can't really appreciate your health until it is taken away from you"

So very, very true.

Many years back i fainted from high blood pressure (was taking 6x40mg Andriol tabs a day (after reading the advice of a certain UK steroid 'guru' - i was doing fine on 4 originally, serves me right i guess for being dumb/greedy) and had major panic attacks for months after it, whites of my eyes were yellow in the corners, and i felt sick from my throat to my stomach for ages, my pee was cloudy as fuck, i defo thought id damaged my liver, and i seriously thought i was gonna die, that kinda experience sure put things into perspective for me.

( I had a bloodtest done and the results came back fine, apart from high blood pressure of course)

Last time I saw Yates it was at my gym here in Amsterdam, a few years back,
but years after his last olympic competition. (4-5 years ago is my best guess).
He was training shoulders. He had a big wide shirt on, with his sleeves wrapped
up above his forearms. I could see he still had huge traps under his shirt. And
those forearms where popeye like too. I was already done so I just saw him
doing 2 sets of side raises with 30kgs (66lbs dumbells).. that was enough for me
He didn't look small at all, but maybe that's b/c I was so tiny compared to him
back then hahaha

markus ruhl smokes.its a known fact that smoking causes cancer.he also uses tons of growth hormone and GH causes cells to grow whether its muscle cells or cancer cells.So,smoking+GH=SUICIDE.Markus Ruhl is a great bodybuilder and i hope he realises that life is more valuable than being a huge monster.

You think he is different then other users like most of us? Don't think so. So many are experimenting on theirselves and thus playing with their health and lives..
By the way GH --> IGF-1 in the body by the liver. The latter one is indeed
able to increase size and number of any cell in the body. Not GH.
Furthermore, DHT (dihydrotestosterone) variants such as winstrol for
instance, can cause the prostate to enlarge..which you don't want either.
Testosterone also gets turned into DHT easily in the body. One of the first
things BB-ers learn is what this powerful hormone can do to your hair on your
head. No-one wants to get bald b/c of DHT or have a big lumpy prostate. So
that means no one should take testo variants or dht variants.. If you want to
be more free of risk, just don't use any AS at all.. I think there are lots of
people taking drugs without really realizing what those hormones do besides
making you bigger.. Lucky us we got this forums now to learn from.

I think competitive bodybuilding is a killer. Is that all worth it in the long run?
Don't think so. So many pro's out there with serious or less serious health problems. I prefer being less of a monster, but healthy. I stopped competing
right after my first victory. Don't you agree Markus Ruhl is, even if he would stop smoking, still at danger b/c of all the shit he takes.

Don't give a rat's ass what other people think is "not healthy" or "abusing".

Do what makes YOU happy, you only go around once.

This is a somewhat haphazard line of thinking, I believe it is true to an extent though. You just have to decide what your priorities are.

Yes! BB is a great hobby, but it mystifies me the people who put it before their careers and family. It should come an important 3rd only. Also, to the Bro who thought he messed up his liver with D-Rol....You could just as easily have had.

I completely agree with you, it should NEVER come bofore your career and family.

9 out of 10 of ALL OF US would take exactly what the top 10 pros are taking if that meant we ourselves could be a top 10 pro. We all know how all of us dream of stepping on stage @ the Olympia, getting stared at-at a expo. Having wanna be's taking pictures with us. Being on a mag. cover. Ect..... Don't get me wrong, all of these pro's health have probably gone to complete shit. Blown thyroids, blown pancreas',blown pituitary's. But, also remember, a gram of test hits shawn ray alot different than it hits one of us average bros. Have you seen pics of shawn ray @ 18 yrs old???? HELLO!!!!! GENETICS. HAVE YOU SEEN PICS OF RONNIE COLEMAN AT A YOUNGE AGE??? FUCKING FREAK. Some pros don't have those genetics, and those are the ones who will drop dead one day soon. I think it's funny how you guys rip on these pros for taking what they take...when almost all of us are taking insulin,t3,growth,ifg-1,diuretics.ect... If were all so concerned w/our health...then why are you bro's putting insulin in your body??? When you think about it..it really is stupid. But we do it. We do it to get huge. We do it to get fucking ripped(steroids in general) and love it when people stare at us in the gym. Most of us realize we don't have what it takes to step on a pro stage...so we find it so convienant to say how unhealthy all of these pros are. It's no secret. If we were sooo concerned w/our health, we wouldn't be on this board to begin with!!!

I met up with Dorian in July for a personal trainning session at Temple Gym. He didn't look giant sized but he still looked pretty big and appeared to be in good shape. Either way, he seemed like a good honest guy to me, and put me through one the most intense workouts of my life! It was an experience to say the least!! hehe.

So what if he's going out to clubs and enjoying himself nowadays? I'd say after 6 Mr Olympias he is entitled to have some fun. Besides it's not like he doing poorly after retiring from bodybuilding. He still runs Temple Gym and plays a big part in a high quality supplement line called Chemical Nutrition.

BTW his son Lewis was at the gym that day and he looked ripped to shreds....

A good solid argument against what everyone else said and well presented Bro.
