Bathroom Scale ?

Does anyone know why whenever a bathroom scale is used on carpet, it will make you weigh about 4 pounds more? I've always wondered about this, it seems like it would make you weigh less. Anyway, I am looking for a decent bathroom scale since my old one broke. It was digital and I didn't like it anyway, it would always give me a different reading. So I am looking for a decent old fashioned one with the little neddle that moves instead of digital. Does anyone know of any? Thanks in advance.

Because they use mechanical lever system that is pressure sensitive. Carpet thickness will prevent accurate reading.
