Barbie girl

oh man, my innocent little comment wasn't meant to trigger all this back n forth. you guys think too much.

cind, It didn't really cross my mind that her dream was sad or not. I found her pics really interesting to look at, I was thinking more along the lines that it must of took alot of drive and focus to accomplish her dream. and if everyone had that inspiration and pursuit, things will get accomplished thus my comment. Barbie is probably feeling accomplished and satisfied, judging from the thousands of pics shirl posted the link of, all in all there was no reason for that blogger to hate so hard.

I was just being honest. Lol. I didn't mean to trigger an argument about bodybuilding thats for sure.

Before I even clicked on nan's link I thought to myself 'what a waste'. I never did click on Shirl's links, so I don't know. You are right though, there was no reason for that blogger to be so hateful. You'd never hear those things come out of my mouth or those words typed under my name. At the same time, I can still relate to the repulsion at the idea, because thats what I felt. I do not think that means I need help, in any way whatsoever. I reject that completely.

Anyway..lol *whistle*

Listen, I was NOT knocking anyone's choices. You're making shit up like I say take all natural for cancer and now this.

I am not concerned with Barbie's choices or other's who mess up their bodies. I was clearly stating that this is a real condition where those who mess with and are obsessed with body image are classified as this.
Be pissed at the MD's who came up with this, not me......Jeez

Try not to make shit up or make assumptions about medical diagnostics without knowing what you are talking about, this barbiegirl wanted to look like something in particular, that does not mean she had any issues with her own body to begin with.

One of the main criteria for most diagnostics include some sort or interference with a significant area of a person's life (social, family, work, etc) in her case her appearance actually draws people to her and to her business, hence there is not distress to the main functions and areas of life.

Here are the official DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for Body Dysmorphic Disorder:

A. Preoccupation with an imagined defect in appearance. If a slight physical anomaly is present, the person's concern is markedly excessive.
B. The preoccupation causes clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.
C. The preoccupation is not better accounted for by another mental disorder(e.g., dissatisfaction with body shape and size in Anorexia Nervosa).

Without even being her therapist it is pretty clear she does not meet the criteria, I know you enjoy taking jabs at actual scientifically proven to work medicine but try not to take ignorant stabs in the dark towards the profession and it's treatments/diagnostics without educating yourself a little bit, it spreads the ignorance when someone states an uncertainty as a fact.

If I was a plastic surgeon and she came to me, I would be struggling ethically whether to do anything for her without her being evaluated first.

If I was a space astronaught I would be looking at you and laughing through my giant telescope. That is if you were a plastic surgeon.

what if she gets evaluated and she is fine?

If she was fine, then I can imagine it would be fun. At the same time, I would want to help people feel better about themselves though isn't that why people become plastic surgeons? Not to make them worse and make money by enabling them. If someone was coming to me with defects that were not really defects, I would definitely want to tell them they should talk to someone and I would be on the lookout for signs of BD because obviously you would see it more often as a plastic surgeon.
