Bad News for Me

Spunky

Lower back has been bothering me... I think from heavy deadlifts. Went to the chiro today... have a pinched nerve and twisted vertebrae? i think thats how u spell it... i have to go back tommorow for treatment, and twice a week until i am better. wish me luck. Only 21 years old too... hope this doesn't fuck my lifting up forever.

I have had the same problem and a severe bulging disc as well. The key is to rest and do a lot of abb and hip flexor work, DO NOT lift heavy on any muscle for a while or you will just make it worse. Be very careful at the Chiropractor and make sure they do not perform any major manipulations. It would also be helpful to have an MRI done so that you know exactly what you are dealing with. Good Luck

I think Chiropractor's are all a joke. I want to go in to one and tell him by back is hurting just so see what BS he makes up.

Oh you spine is crooked, you need to come in 3 times a weeks and let me pop your back..

my mom had severe back problems and she has been seeing a chiro for 6 months and she is 100 times better.. so i do not agree.

I had problems with my back and shoulders and my chiro was a freegin miracle worker. I walked ..... if you want to call it that ...... into his office once with my lowe back KILLING me after I twsietd it. Within an hour after the appt I felt a LOT better. Awesome.

He also helped fix shoulder problems and problems with my neck as well.

Make sure yoyu get a good one with good referrals.

just went for 1st actual treatment yesterday. the doc put some pads on my lower back and it kindda shocked my muscles. felt kindda odd, but my back felt a little better after first treatment. then he sat me on a weird looking contraption and stretched my lower back which felt great. too bad its hurting just as bad today.. of course he said it may take weeks worth of therapy to heal completely. can't wait for my next session tommorow.. back is killing me!!!!

Sorry to hear about your back. You might want to look into something called a reverse Hyperextension machine. It was invented by Louie Simmons a famous powerlifter, he invented this device when he developed a lower back injury. If you go to www.elitefitnesssystems.com it will tell you about it. I use it at my gym and it basically acts a recuperative therapy, it supposed to open up your vertebrae relieving stress. Check it out, can't hurt. Good luck.

Bro, be aware - Chiros are con men. They are NOT a legitamate medical practice and there is NO supporting medical evidence for benefit for what they do.

Their job - their life - their practice - is to convince you that there is something wrong with you that they need to treat. Hence, you need to go twice a week... so that they can BILL you twice a week.

Go to an orthopedist if you seriously believe you have a problem. AN orthopedist has been to medical school. A chiropracter hasn't.

Sofa, we need to talk.

SofaGeorge, I respect you as a person on this board but that was a very ignorant response you have to this post. Just as bad as Oubetas reply considering that neither of you really have no clue what you're talking about. But I'm not here to get into a pissing contest, although I will say this. Chiropractors are legitimate doctors who are adept and skilled at spinal manipulation as well as manipulation of other parts of the body as well. They are not "Con men" as you say they are and they have their place in society as doctors. They go to school for 4 years undergrad-most getting a bachelors in pre-med/biology, etc. and then go to Chiropractic school for another 3.5 years. While in Chiropractic school they take just as many national board exams as medical doctors and on average take 30 trimester hours. They even put in more hours/classes in X-rays then regular medical doctors.

And then you're gonna go about saying their quacks and no legitimate medical practice huh? Well guess what, if there was no use for them, there would be no such thing as a chiropractor, instead it's one of the quickest growing and accepted forms of natural/alternative medicine in the US. Just like any other type of doctor, there are good chiropractors and bad chiropractors but in todays fucked up society if someone goes to a bad medical doctor, they just go to another one and write him off as a bad doctor, but if a patient goes to a bad chiropractor then the whole profession gets a black eye. That' s just the way of acceptance in today's society. So don't tell me your uneducated bullcrap on this subject...because you're a mod and you should be posting intelligently to those less educated so that they can learn rather than fill their head with bullshit propaganda. My rant is over and I hope I got my point across. Again, I mean no disrespect to you, I just get aggrivated seeing uneducated posts. Peace out.

For the most part this is correct. The term "Quack" is from the beginning times of Chiros. It has progressed very much. The schooling is very intense (and expensive). I don't think insurance would cover all this crap if it didn't really do some good and save them money down the line. Plus I fucked a Chiropractor once and she helped straighten out my joint.

Medlars and Medline don't support your belief that Chiropractor have a positve benefit beyond the placebo effect.

I hve friends who are chiropractors. I've had this debate with them at length. to date I hve not had a chiropractor show me clincal evidence that their practice has documented benefit.

Regarding my being uneducated on this issue - really? What is my professional expertise?

I never believed in chiropractors either. Especially since Drveejay is one :P But last year I hurt my brachial radialus (sp?) muscle (top of the forearm muscle) doing reverse curls. It hurt bad enough that it was painful to pick up my laptop bag. I figured it would go away and I'd ice it after working out and would be sure not to ever lift anything with my palm down. This pain stayed the same for 4 months. I then went to a chiro who specialized in ART therapy and I was 100% after 8 visits doing power cleans again with 225.

Sofa George, I actually don't know what your professional expertise is and I don't doubt that you are in a very well respected professional field. What I should have said was rather that your reply sounded like an uneducated reply...not that you have "uneducated bullcrap" like I said...hope that I'm getting my point across, but I will admit I do get hot over things like this. Why don't you tell me what your professional expertise is? As I am interested. Onca again, no offense by all of this, just trying to educate all those out there who have no idea...that is what I believe should be the reason we have "moderators" and vets in the first place. Take care.

I don't understand the "treatment", physical therapy is one thing because you are strengthing the muscle bones tendons ligaments. chiropractors "manipulate" so what are they doing and why does it come back and if they manipulate and it comes back why in the long run does it go away. It is a confusing treatment at the least and good strength training is the best treatment for most injuries and like sofa said orothopedics for anything related to bone structure.
