i have degenerative disks in my lower back....i used to go to therapy at some place in hoboken but the place sucked. does anyone know of any good sports doctors or rehab facilities in the nyc area? the place i went to said to basically stop working out and to do yoga or stretch instead....YEAAAAAH...RIIIIIIGHT. i would prefer to have someone treat me that knows bodybuilding and that knows how i train. if anyone can help out i would greatly appreciate it!!

well it depends where you live, I live by JFK and go to this doctor on crossbay blvd for the same reasons as you. There are tons of chiropractors and physocal therapists specially in NYC, just look for one and try it

try 0.6mg of colchicine first thing in the morning. i know its for gout , but trust me on this. do this for 40 day and u will have relief.

Jp honey.. The best thing to do when it becomes quite painful is Heat.. Massage and Acupunture.. the best treatments for it.. If its too severe there is a treament my friend gets.. He said it really helps.. Is an enzyme called Chemonucleolysis.. Its injected into the area where its affected..

The best is a hot towel on the area.. And a nice massage from yr lady!

What is wrong with the disk? Is it bulging, ruptured, herniated or is it dessicated with an annular tear? The best thing to do is consult a doctor and let him give you some anti-inflammatory. With a little rest and the meds you should be ok. It usually takes 4-8 weeks for disks to heal. If the disk is torn and dessicated it will more than likely give you problems for a long time. With a dessicated disk it means that the disk is drying out or has dried out (the fluid is the disk that provides shock absorbancy is gone). The disk loses it's height and can cause pressure to be applied to nerves. If it is lumbar spine than pain is usually felt in the buttocks and legs, if it is in the cervical spine than pain can be felt in the shoulders and arms. Annular tears can heal but will never be the same and are more than likely going to tear again. Just take it easy for a while and do excercises that will build up and strengthen the core muscles that are around these disks. If surgery is recommended by a doctor than always seek a second opinion. I hope this helps.
