Does anyone else step forward out of the back of the rack and then step backward to replace the bar on the rack. in most form videos I see people stepping back off the rack. Am I doing it wrong or at risk of injury.

Never ever ever ever do that again... Yes, you are doing it wrong and yes, you are at a risk of injury. Just step back out, step forward in.

You can't see the rack. You will be fatigued after a set of heavy squats, if you misjudge the height or the distance of the hooks it can result in a catastrophe.

Exactly.

Listen to this guy.

agreed step back you will have much more confidence in where you are going especially when you start carrying around the big weights.
