Austin Police officer fired for Racist behavior

Chesty,

everything you say has a reasonable point and experience from an angle that most posting on this board don't. Now this reasonable supspicion.....for that particular incident I don't or didn't follow, I'm asking you about the overall training/experience of the actions of law enforcement.....I believe that there are serious flaws with some of these procedures, and the fact that the L E officials I know have stated their reasons to me confirms it.......I'm bothered because if you combine going outside the parameters of your training to harass minorities, and they know it....then the situation will probably turn bad...usually for the person being harassed unecessarily by this. I think it's called being provoked. Apparently this is often disregarded, or the officer lies under oath to get the conviction. Now, if a person not being cycled thru the system can know this....what about those who are in the system because of it? If I was being harassed constantly because of my car, or whatever reason cops state, it would get old pretty fast.

Natymike, it seems that you go out of your way looking for articles and stories that show how bad white folks have it. Don't you have any other hobbies?

I didn't bother to read your tired reply, but this article touched a nerve because I saw it on the local news about 5 times, it was the top story on every news cast in Austin, sorry for spreading the news.

I don't think Whites have it bad, I think that NOBODY has it bad. But certain people keep using race as a crutch and it pisses me off more than anything.

Any officer that would lie desrves to get canned. You don't need to invent reasonable suspicion or probable cause as there is enough crime even in affluent areas to go around. You can't train someone to be reasonably suspicious. All you can do is point out things and hope they develop the skills.

Profiling is done everywhere, but it is a legitamite tool. Race does not fall into the equation. Without going for ride alongs or becoming a cop you cannot really understand.

But remember this, you pay us to be suspicious and to protect you so if we suddenly decide that cause we are white and the dude is black and we do nothing although our instincts and our knowledge of the area say otherwise and then some one is hurt (robbed, or whatever) we will be held accountable for not taking action, but will they say it was due to being afraid of being accused of racism? Of course not!

See, we are in a catch 22. We are damned if we do and damned if we don't. So, better to do and to protect than not to.

If you lie and shit like that you should be hammered (as a cop) we will not tolerate that from any leo.

excellent point

of view! Always is, thanks Chesty.....(ps even though you are a Marine).....quickest way to kill a Marine?
throw a bucket of sand up against a brick wall and say " Hit the beach!" :FRlol: :FRlol:

Chesty, I do appreciate how difficult it is to be a police officer. And yes, many times an officer's hunches are borne out. But I think that there is a difference between profiling someone based upon objective behavior and racial profiling. I think that good cops do try to point to some objective behavior by a suspect that leads to reasonable suspicsion. But I think that there are a lot of lazier cops out there who use racial profiling as a shorthand substitute. After all in NYC, the police arrest people of color far more often than whites (i.e. people of color are stopped in a disproportionate amount compared to what portion of society they consist). Unfortunately, many of the bad cops will then come into court and testa-lie about the reason why they stopped the defendant. They originally stopped him/her because of his race and then fill in "suspicious" behaviors to justify the illegal stop.
I think the point that RyanH is trying to make is that racial profiling should not exist, even if a cop's suspicions turn out to be correct.
You are absolutely correct that a cop's job is extremely tough. And for the stressful job that they do, they are extremely underpaid and underappreciated. But using racial profiling is unconstitutional. And it doesn't prevent robberies, murders, or rapes--more serious crimes. Racial profiling usually only results in drug possession, gun possession, and petit larceny arrests.
And Chesty, I am not saying that all cops are bad or that all cops engage in testa-lying. Absolutely not. There are a ton of professional, good cops out there. But I think that there are enough bad apples in some police departments that warrant federal intervention and retraining.

I think we are ignoring the facts here.

1) Who is complaining about "profiling?"

2) Why are they complaining about "profiling?"

Because it works.

The men refused to stop, the memo said, and ran through a red light, running another vehicle off the road

Enlow chased and arrested the driver, searched the truck and found some drugs.

And the OFFICER is the criminal here?

You humans are the dumbest mother fuckers. No offense.

HamsterHider,

I did. It cannot compare, however, to the plethora of expletives I shouted loudly just a few moments ago when I began working.

It happens every time I work.

I just saw Hellraiser V. They should make Hellraiser VI and just videotape me working.

It's obvious that being married to an African-American woman hasn't enlightened the officer at all......Simply because he is married to an African American woman says nothing about him not being a racist...............Many racists have ties to the African American community.

I guess I must hate hispanic/arab people then. Just because my parents are hispanic/arab and my immediate family is says nothing about me not being a racist. Ahhh!!! The truth has been revealed!

Your arguments hold little to no water.
