I feel sorry for him but at 6'4 335, almost 100 F outside...well im not surprise at all... I guess that with this temperature and being such a fat ass I would died too....

matt, it may not have been you that used that example... but someone did... i just usually recall when you reply to something because i either think its right or i think its completely moronic... nothing in between. :D

I don't know anything about football and read the article in the LA Times about Stringer only because he died so young; I'd never heard of him. But, if I equate football as entertainment, then I guess football players (and basketball players, baseball players, etc.) should get the millions that they're paid. It's the players that people are interested in seeing and it's the people that are plunking down the money to buy the tickets at the stadiums or watching Monday Night Football and making it the number one rated program during its run. Why should the owners rake in all the cash when it's the players that are on the front line? To me, it's just like the cast of "Friends" when they were re-negotiating their contract and upped their salary to $700,000 per episode. The network and the production companies are pulling down millions in commercial sales and syndication. The public watches the show for the cast. Why shouldn't they get compensated for the hard work they put in to make that show a hit? When you're able to parlay your talents or skills into a marketable medium that brings enormous fame along with it, and everyone is getting a huge financial piece of the action, I think the person behind it should, too.

If you don't like the salaries, you can;t blame the players. They're doing the best they can....if I see a better consulting offer than my current one, I try to get it.

All of us would like to make more cash. It isn't their fault....

I think the salaries are too high...but it;s entertainment - people watch it, just like a TV show - so the money has to come from somewhere....if pro sports didn't generate billions, the players wouldn;t be millionaires.

Bac Doc - not that I'm into a rebuttal here

I was aline man and played organized sports for 7 at the collegiate high school level.
I never remember it as a norm to puke...even on the hottest day.
If you body is forcing you to empty your stomach something is up and three time...flat out something is wrong.
What does a good doctor do...treat the symptoms and listen to the patient......they weren't doing there jobs. One of the biggest problems of heat stress/heat stroke is that you most times don't see it coming on to yourself until it to late. When he knew he had a problem it had already progressed to far......Of course will wait for the medical examiner.

Different note BacDoc.....what should I do....I got whiplashes in a car accident back in the winter and now have three bulged disc's in my neck - confirmed by MRI. One below my fusion(c5 & c6) two above. The ones on either side are rubbing on my spinal cord........My doc say an operation isn't an option until I'm hurting so bad I can't stand it.
What do you think.

I think they deserve every penny they get because they are the best in the world at what they do. Anyone can be a contruction man, any one can go to college and become a teacher, anyone can join the armed forces , but only a select few are born with the talent and dedication it takes to be a pro athlete.

Cleaner, I'm sorry to hear that bro, I know how painful that can be...I've got compression fractures at C5/C6 myself (football related no doubt) and it flares up from time to time.

As far as what can be done, did your doctor give you a diagnosis as to what they found on MRI? If it is uncomplicated disc bulge (without spinal cord involvement) then you might ask your doc about referring you for physical therapy. If you wanted to try a chiropractor, if I were you I would ONLY go to someone who has postdoctoral certification in neurology...in the yellow pages their name is followed by D.C., DACBN...they do specialty work and might be a second opinion worth getting. Medically, have you seen an orthopedic surgeon AND a neurosurgeon? If you can, get an appointment with them just to consult what their recommendation would be with regards to rehabilitation.

In the meanwhile, here are my best recommendations:

1. DO NOT DO ANY HEAVY LIFTING UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN AWAKE FOR AT LEAST 2 OR 3 HOURS...this is because the discs in your spine have gone from a horizontal gravity pull (while you sleep they are not as compressed by gravity exerting vertical force on the vertebra), so when you get up in the morning the discs have absorbed more water (suction phenomenon) and so the discs are full of water. This results in a greater disc "height" which means the tension on supporting ligaments holding everything together is greater. Give it a couple of hours to let the ligament tension decrease. Heavy lifting or ballistic stretching soon after waking up can do more damage in the long run (this is evident in the high number of disc injuries in the early morning hours). So until this resolves, try not to overdo it early in the morning.

2. If you have been told that you do not need surgery right away, but yet it is causing discomfort, go to your local health food store and get cetyl myristoleate (CMO) and milk thistle. This should help manage the pain better than any other non-medical treatment. Let me know if you are interested and I'll send you a copy of how and when it should be taken.

**No matter what you do, be sure to keep your doctor updated if there are any changes in how you feel.

I hope that helps...get well soon!

sorry but am in total agreeance with MB and Slopain. The peeps that are against players salaries - what about the sport in which (I guess for some of you) most if not all on this participate on a regular basis- bodybuilding.

I would be willing to bet the ones who are against salaries and the fact that they give their bodies to their respective sports - and they do- are the same ones that justify drug use (I am only naming a few here **disclaimer** for the analretentive)- weed, gear, amphetamines - to name a few - to get them to what ever level - and I will use bodybuilding as the extreme example. I would bet peeps like say --- Big Buck -- justify gear use to - say a possible shot at either competing -- that could be for shows or at its lowest level --- women:mix: .

Now like Slopain I have and will always be an avid sports player (football, rugby) and i will always use sports figures as a legit form of inspiration -- and if you want as heros -- as cliche as you want it. And you know what, anyone who is so against their salaries or the fact that they do indeed- put their bodies on the line should seriously consider trying a sport-- see if you like and then ask your self amongst the most important part of it -- which is that you do it for your own personal achievement-- but that one would die to have what all Pro athletes have: money, fame, and yeah women---

my prayers go out to the Stringer family

On the issue about salaries, there is no way anyone can justify someone making 20 million a year for showing up once a week. However, the money does have to go somewhere, and the players are the ones that draw the viewers. So it may not seem right, but there are millions generated from their performances, so I guess they are deserving of the cash.

On another note, I quickly realized that pro football is a SISSY sport when compared to Rugby. Rugby players don't get paid jack, when they get injured they stay in the game, when they score a try, they don't do some gay ass celebration. All my respect goes out to the rugby bro's. Just watch a game and you will understand. There are no timeouts or breathers, its nonstop barbaric war without pads.
