Asthma?

Sorry for posting this in this part of the forum, but the other ones have been dead lately.

My dad's (56) asthma has been getting pretty severe lately. He's coughing his lungs out every 5 or so minutes and I just can't bare to see him in such discomfort. He went to the doc but only got prescribed some pills and a pump which very barely help him at all. Are there any new meds out there that might show some hope for him? Anything at all? I don't know how long he'll be able to take living like this...

Asthma sucks man. I have it pretty bad also. I would recommend going to an allergist and getting an allergy shot every week. This will help tone down some of the things that start up his asthma. I use proventil everyday and albuterol as a relief inhaler. I have also used primatene mist tabs at walmart. They work ok also. Ask your doc about nebulizer treatments if he isnt already on them. Dust proof and mite proof pillow casing also ease some of the causes of attacks. They make a spray that you can buy that also kills them and an air sanitizer(a good one) yes they are expensive will help in his room. There are some new meds out there, but you would have to talk to the doc about those bc it isnt wise to mix asthma meds. bc they increase heartrate. Make sure you let the doc know before trying any of the above mentioned. Hope some of that helps man. I know the feeling. Good luck
