Assholes on motorcycles

Tonight driving home from the store I got stuck in a line of traffic being held up by four motorcyclists, riding in 2 x 2 formation. They were going about 5 MPH below the posted limit. I was two cars back in my lane, and none of the people in front of me were pressuring them or challenging them in any way.

They held up traffic all the way across the north end of town. I got to my turnoff but stayed with them just out of curiosity, to see if they'd break. Finally they got separated a little, going down a steep winding hill:

And that was the break I needed to get closer to the front of the queue. We got to a stoplight and two of them got stuck behind a truck, so when the light changed they weren't able to hold formation and that's when I was able to break through.

Anyway, has anyone seen this kind of behavior before? Don't they have anything better to do on a Saturday night?

I've seen that cruising slow side-by-side trying to be seen shit, and I have no qualms about getting right on their rear fender to give them a message; they wanna get cute, they can die...fuck em.

No matter how fast im going if someone wants to get on my ass im letting them pass , its a safety issue since getting hit on a motorcycle is much worse than in a car.

No doubt! And we should all do that in cars too. It's usually a greenie nut case in a Prius who will cruise at 54 mph in the left lane of a 65 mph freeway, trying to do his part to control other drivers into saving gas. Too bad it's illegal to shoot out tires on slow cars in the fast lane! I let people pass ASAP, even if I'm going 100 in a 45 zone. In CA, the speed limit and the "slower traffic keep right" laws are independent and parallel; meaning that you can still get a ticket if you're going exactly the speed limit and you don't pull over in the next lane to let a speeder pass. And I always say about goodie two-shoes drivers going exactly the speed limit and holding up everybody else; If I speed, it's not your ticket... It's mine. But if you force me or other faster people to pass you unsafely, it might be YOUR collision too.

I don't give a fuck if someone's in a car or on a bike, if they can't stay with the flow of traffic or are causing a slow down and don't have their hazards on for an emergency or something, they deserve to be run off the road. Because sooner or later they will cause an accident involving more people.

people are fucking assholes...bikers, non-bikers, truck drivers, tree-huggin-prius-drivers, horseback riders...fuck'em all...the world is overpopulated with assholes of all shapes and sizes and races and religions and modes of transportation. :)

Agree. It all boils down to basic consideration and minding your own business.

If someone is at or just under the speed limit, people need to chill and get the fuck off their ass. Too many knuckleheads now seem to interpret the speed limit as being the speed minimum.

I flash them my glock while on my bike, that usually gets the point across efficiently.

Even if they're deliberately blocking both lanes? And these assholes were going 5mph under.

And the speed limit is the de facto minimum.

people in the left lane are supposed to move over for those trying to go faster, no matter what speed they are traveling at

I'm not talking about 4 lanes, brocephus. Squatting in the fast lane is an asshole maneuver. I'm talking about riding the speed limit on a two-lane surface street and having some douche buttfucking you for 5 miles.

Okay, but what does that have to do with this thread? I was on a 4-lane road. The motorcycles were riding 2 x 2 square formation blocking both lanes.

I would always politely keep back, if I could assume that the person would use THE NEXT turnout, or would keep in the right lane on a multi-lane road. I only get upset if they turtle along parallel to other traffic in the next lane so as no opportunity to pass, or if they crawl up a mountain road becuase they're in a vehicle which can't safely go over the speed limit, and they refuse to pull over even when they have 10 angry drivers behind. Again, we are each responsible for our own actions, and we are not responsible for "protecting" the rest of the drivers from tickets or wasting their own gas that they paid for. I break speed limits all the time, but NEVER in a situation where it's not safe. A speed limit for "the average driver in the average vehicle". So it's probably too fast for a 75-year-old driver with 20/300 vision in a '75 Plymouth with a loose front end, but it's ridiculously slow for a 43-year-old driver with 20/15 vision, riding a 2009 Yamaha R1 with 25 years experience on the canyon & mountain roads of SoCal (and a perfect driving record earned).

Case in point: Kanan-Dume Road from Malibu Beach to Hwy 101... It's about 14 miles with a mountainous climb from sea level, over Monte Nido Peak at 2400 feet, and down again. The speed limit is 50mph most of the way, and it has two lanes for about half of the 14 miles, with signs "SLOWER TRAFFIC USE RIGHT LANE". I get angry when the slower traffic stays in the left lane going 38 mph, and I can't pass because the polite drivers DID in fact get in the right lane. Only the one a**hole stayed in the left lane.

I drove that road the last time I was in Cali on vacation (took it to get from Malibu to Simi Valley). You'd have to be some kind of an asshole to be going under the speed limit on that road and holding up traffic.
