How often do you guys wear all your gear?

i see quite a few people in my area bookin' it up the highway with just a helmet and maybe gloves..........i think they're stupid........60-65/mph.....and no gear but a helet?
little crazy no??

i could see it being different if you were "crusing" around in your local area...but in the highway? and NO jacket?
thats asking for trouble IMO

I dunno...I guess it depends on the area where you live. I have yet to see someone wearing riding pants. People here wear helmet, gloves and if its not too hot - jacket too

i ride quite frequently with no gear......but it mainly depends on how im planning on riding, who im riding with(groups get crazier), and where i am riding.......if down a low traffic street to the gym i will wear just my helmet......not saying that is the way to ride, but thats what i do

i mean within reason...
around the block ... or neighbourhoods, just a helmet seems ok... going no faser then like 50/60/kph........anthing over that at a hight constant rate of speed i'd be personally wearing a jacket atleast from there on

yeap, that too - it depends where you ride too. In Michigan there is no tracks or any mountains, so we ride in local traffic and sometimes take the highway. If we go up north at the country, its still just a straight road 99% of the time. So, only helmet and if its chilly jacket and gloves

I don't own gear except a helmet and gloves.....60-65 mph  try 90-105 mph, I'm friends with cops in MI and they don't even try once you hit a hundred they shut their lights off and turn around ;)

we are NOT worried about getting a fucking ticket NEWBIE....we are worried about ROADRASH!!!

i dont' give a fuck who you are friends with, you won't give a FUCK EITHER when you are laid up in the hospital getting skin grafts as i did!!!

and yes, i ride over 100mph frequently, but if i do i promise you i will have protection over my entire body, and you just haven't felt asphalt at even 40mph yet much less 100mph if you ride taht fast with no protection........you know what they say, 2 kinds of riders....those that have wrecked and those that are gonna wreck

I wrecked a few weeks back it wasn't bad. I know what you mean though, I'll probebly get some in the future I'm just saving for gear and I'm not talking about for my bike ;)

im telling you man, i laid a gixxer 1k down at 30mph and didn't get too beat up, i tank slapped a cbr954 and had bone grafts, skin grafts, and my ankle and wrist reconstructed!

road rash is a bitch

ouch..i had a friend lay down his gixxer 1000 in the twisties..flew off the road off a cliff about 200 yards
when he wonke up in the hospital and i told him wht happened all he said was "Oh No!! My bike!!!"

If you are riding a sport bike the way it was made to be ridden you need to wear gear.

If you are in a T-Shirt and no helmet, then you aren't afraid of falling, and you aren't riding the bike like you should be - and you my friend - are a poser.

I wear a helmet and gloves, its good for me right now, get on the ppl in OH and FL with no helmet laws, do you have all the gear?

just pointing this out, but as a "new" rider you are more likely to have an accident and need the gear.......your chances of crashing do NOT go down as you ride long........just chances of a worse crash maybe from riding faster, but more newbies take spills than advanced riders..........

u should IMO have atleast a Jacket too!

getting SERIOUS ROADRASH isnt kool.

but dont listen to me, im an amateur rider :)

yep, if im planning on the front tire leaving the ground at all im putting on my jacket........only time i ride without a helmet is at the beach sitting/crusing slowly on the strip

Before you go around calling people douchbags you should probably discern between comments made in generality and comments made to a specific person.

My comment was a generality.

Just wear gear man.

ok, my fault. I was under the impression you were directing the comment towards me.

600rr that has troubles doing a wheelie.....................must have a shitty driver then. No clutch should be needed.

I dont wear anything when I putt around. But then again my town is about 5,000 people and dont go over 40mph. When on the highway it is gloves, boots, jacket, and helmet.

So you aren't riding "like you should" if your style doesn't put you at a significant risk of falling or crashing?

That does cast some light on why they call them "donor-cycles".

As for me personally I think I'll stick to riding conservatively so I can live to ride again another day.

a 600rr isnt necessarily the best bike to LEARN on. But if you're smart, then there arent any worries.
A buddy of mine was learning on a 2002 Honda RC51 - 1000cc v-twin and wrecked it. Same kid went out and bought a brand new Kawasaki 10r and wrecked it badly.
Seen alot of stupid kids do stupid things while learning on bikes that are waaay too advanced for them. Try to stay within your comfortable bounds, but you can push your limits gradually.

if im testing, i put on a helmet. i live on the outskirts of town and have a long winding road that almost no one travels on...

when i RIDE- its a full set of racing leathers, helmet, boots, gloves armour. im a completely different person when i board my bike. i ride at 100%, so therefore i suit up in case of unforseen circumstances...

that's what I'm doing taking my time, I bought this one b/c I could afford it and I love it and two b/c I plan on having awhile.

Putting on the exhaust, sliders, flush mounts (lights), taking the stupid fender off, and this winter I'm powder coating the aluminium black. I'm excited.

BTw, I wear a jacket, gloves, raceboot and helmet for a quick ride. If I am plan on wheeliing or riding the twisties I put full leathers on. Then not only can I drag a knee chicks LOVE'EM they think I am a wheely riding GIMP.

Exactly. Why would you buy a race-bred sportbike that revs to 13,000+ to drive to the corner store and back?

Poser.

Nothing wrong with riding conservatively - you just don't need to do it on a de-tuned MotoGP bike.

No doubt these bike were make for SPEED!!! I wish I could get a TUNED MotoGp bike. :D

I only see people with full racing leathers here. My neighbour used to compete, he still rides both a bimota and a triumph speed triple, he wears full leathers and carbon inserts... then again, that mofo is doing 150+ mph everytime he goes out.

We went in Venezuela last December, he kept checking out the bikes we saw, the only thing he did was look at the rear tire wear pattern and say "rookie... rookie... rookie..." lol

You can identify the skill level of a rider in two seconds by looking at his rear tire.

I would add a power commander and a performance Air filter along with a +2 rear sprocket and integrated rear LED lights

who cares if you have a de tuned moto GP bike and aren't a pro......I have to say, that most likely 75%+ of all the people on liter bikes are NOT able to take them to their full potential....hell probably more like 95%.....

Exactly... people ride for a lot of reasons. For me, it's being close to the road and the things around you. It's about massive acceleration. It's about being able to wick-it if you want to -- and cruise if you don't.

De-tuned GP bikes are priced within average consumers' range of affordability because of people who *don't* ride them to their full potential buy them. If they only sold 100 of each model a year, they'd be crazy expensive.

You sound like the type of person that puts a huge wing, ground effects, a thousand stickers and neons..... on a hyudai tiburon.

And don't flash the "my cock is huge" line about your 999R. They're overpriced and outperformed by pretty much every bike in its class.

:)

I'm not sure what a "hyundai" is and it's certainly not worth a quick google search.

My cock *is* huge.

And I do so love my 999R.

Ahhh... so it would be like a guy using a sports team message board handle (i.e. the New England Patriots) to self-identify with the athlete subculture. That makes sense to me, but we always called them "sham-jocks". From that I guess "sham-jock" is just a specialized form of "poser".

Thanks for the info :)

That would have been sweet nothin' like showing off stunt'n with a bunch of peers around. Can't help ya much with the hydralic clutch. Was it a sitting or standing wheelie. If standing you can bounce the bike up without much clutch at all. If sitting you can slam your butt against the tail section while popping the clutch and that will help you get it up there. Does a hydrolic work alot different than a standard clutch?

patsfan1379 said:
either of you ever dumped it learning to wheelie?

Came close a couple of times but you would be surprised how much chopping the throttle will save ya. Also the way I learned was just getting it up a little at time and only taking it right below the balance point then used more gas to keep it there. Sure you are going to be going faster but it is alot better than going slower and loopin.

i've been experimenting in 2nd gear at about 40mph, trying to clutch it up but I just seem to be burning the fuck out of it. i need my balls to grow a little bigger first.

What kind of bike and what power? Dude, when I had my 750 I almost took it to redline or very close before I popped it. You are doing about the right speed 30ish to 60mph(on the highside) is where you want to pop at. Like I said scoot your butt back fast against the tail and it will help it come up too. Just take your time. Remeber to rev it up pretty dang high. It takes alot of power to raise the front end up to wheelie riding height.

Do you have first gear power wheelies down pretty good? I learned those first to get me use to riding on one wheel. But be careful the throttle is real sensitive in first as you are well aware of.

curling- yeah apparently the hydralic clutch engages differently...my bro's told me she wont loft the same as a cabled clutch. i was wondering why i was having difficulty with my "pulls"...anyway, right now iam seated. no stand ups. the thing thats weird is- she will loft in second gear at any speed or RPM if the "spot" is right...so i havent figured out where that is, its elusive. DAMN IT. lol.

hey AA gang- MOTODAWG is an MX'er originally from So Cal...so he's on board with us- if he's around say hello...he's a good bro.

why clutch it!! i throttle up my cbr1000 in 2nd at around 60mph......i can stand up and bounce it up in 3rd with throttle alone

ive got 1st gear powers down pretty good. i have an 01 R1. its got the power, i just dont have the confidence with a power wheelie, i want to be able to get it up smooth and ride the point, not just power it up with acceleration keeping it up.

damn you guys must be light weights, or your rear tires are hard as FUCK......i've always powered my bikes up in second even with a old rear tire.....my gsxr1k, my cbf954, and my cbr1k, all powered up in 2nd very easily and never would spin the tire at 50-60mph....but again im at or over 250lbs

I see them all the time with little to no gear on at all. I dont think I would even attempt to go on the high way with a bike! I see these people doing about 70 or more, wearing hardly any thing! Pisses me off. Makes me wanna flash them to pull over then slap them around because i just lost a family member to a bike "accident" and he was not wearing gear either!
