Hey! I am on the keto diet now and am thinking about snackin' on some sugar free jello and was just wondering what effect aspartame has on ketosis and storing excess water? Thanks
 
Sugar-free Jello is ok in moderation - as is tablet or liquid forms of sugar substitutes. The killer is the powdered forms that use a sugar based carrier - which can kill ketosis. I am very sensitive to these and have to stay away from them completely if I want ketosis to continue. 3 cups of Jello lite is the max. I have ever had in one day and so far this has worked fine. WAYS TO INTERRUPT KETOSIS:
The only supplements that seem to reliably interrupt ketosis (that I've found at least) are vanadyl (seems to affect liver glycogen status) and citrimax (Hydroxycitric acid). Citric acid (found in many diet sodas) kicks some people out of ketosis, but doesn't affect everybody. Aspartame also seems to affect some people but it isn't consistent. The anti-oxidant n-acetyl-cysteine can give a false positive for ketosis but that's all that occur to me.

Basically, the only way to really negatively affect ketosis are by raising blood glucose, or affecting liver metabolism.
