Arnold Presses instead of Overhead Press?

I am trying to increase my Viking Press before February and I plan to do that by rotating Viking Press, Thick Bar Press, and Log Press. I want to increase my entire pressing strength in every way and hope that it will carry over to my Viking Press strength...

That must be you in your avatar, NA. You are naturally
anabolic--very wide clavicles and shoulder girdle. Many
of us would give a king's ransom to be born like that!

Anyway, WRT Arnold presses...anhh <shrugs>. MRI
analysis indicates that they actually *don't* hit
the anterior delts as hard as stardard old dumbbell
presses. The difference is actually negligible, so
with the known risk of rotator injury with Arnolds,
that's all the more reason to stick to regular DB
presses.

However, Arnolds do involve the front delts more
than BB militaries do. If you're just looking for a
short-term change of pace, you might give them
a shot. Personally, I prefer the Hammer overhead
press to all of the above (blasphemy that such
might be). When I did DB presses years ago,
I came close to jerking my arm out of socket to get
the damn things into position. The Hammer machine
isn't going to help an Olympic lifter, but if it's a mean
contraction you're after, it'll deliver.
