ARG! tried WIDE squats today

After reading the posts about squat stance, I tried going wide today. (as far as I can go in a champion rack). I felt great, although video review revealed that I'm leaning WAY too far forward. My Ass is killing me already, 20 hours later. Much more glute involvement I gather.

after 315x3x3, (and video review) I wasn't getting enough depth, so I went to 225 for 10 so I could feel where I was going. On rep 9, I got a little twinge in the middle of my left quad. I finished the set, but it didn't feel right. I stretched really good, cleaned up & went to bed. When I got up tonight, it hurt even more. No knot, bump, divot or bruising, so I hope it's something that will go away before next friday.

As Pontiac says, Wider is better.

I'll try again next week.

How long does it take to adapt to a new stance. luckily, I haven't gotten too ingrained with the one I have.

Your hips/glutes will be sore for a while. :)

It could be that your quads aren't used to being under pressure in that plane. Take it easy, and good luck!

Women, Pontiac...they both say the same thing...

As far as how long it takes....it depends. Just have to move it out slowly. And yes, alot more glute and hamstring recruitment...you will get used to it.

on a side note...

wide is good, until you cant fit through some doorways. its interesting when i have to walk sideways to get around the house:)

Definately a different plane...
Do you think this could lead to sumo style deadlifting too??

oh yea...when u go wide its more hip and glute involvement. good mornings will help with the leaning over thing. i would also go to box squatting as well. hope this helps. tb
