Most of us here are fairly bull-headed and are going to take what we set our mind to. While I agree taking pain meds (narcotics) can help in recovery, it's that reason I say STAY THE FUCK AWAY!

Trust me. I have been there/done that, and it doesn't end well. While you're taking them everything is great. No pain, no worries, and the big one for us, it makes you feel young!
The problem lies in the fact that oxycontin, oxycodone (percocet included here), and hydrocodone (vicodin) are very sneaky. You start taking them for legitimate purposes, but the next thing you know you're taking it because "I had a hard workout today". Sooner than later it becomes a reward for your hard workout, or your hard day at work, or your old lady pissed you off. Next thing you know....uh oh!
That's only the mental part. There's not enough room for me to start talking about the physiological effects of those drugs on your body. Bad stuff bros. If you are going through the effort of training, diet, and cycling, taking narcotic pain pills is counterproductive. It slows your metabolism big time. Primarily by constipating you and keeping unnecessary "waste" in your colon. Stick to Advil or Tylenol.

I am a recovered lortab and darvocet addict. I started taking them when they were prescribed after surgery to repair a rotator cuff tear. It's sneaky shit. You take them legit one day and then you suddenly find yourself going to your local quack doctor who passes them out like candy on halloween. I ended up suffering stomach ulcers due to the tylenol that they add to it.

im having an issue with them as we speak. i began using them recreationally, not necessarily for fun, but the shit feels so damn good and it helps escape life problems. it seems its makin shit worse now that im off. in all honesty, i do not take them everyday. sometimes i go weeks without, but ive graduated from the vics to gettig OC's, Opana or Roxys. Reading some of these posts though is a little eye opening. i havent been on this site for a long time. i guess its time to stop this shit.

I can't stand drug seekers who come to the ER and get pissed when I don't write them scripts for their meds. Nobody should be addicted to pain meds. Get help because it's not natural.

its funny when you look up their visit history and they have been in the ER 40 times a year for abd pain/headache/back pain/toothache

the number of allergies to non narcotic pain meds is directly related to how freakin crazy the person is...

no one should get dilaudid for a headache

Exactly. If their headache isn't relieved with compazine and they are requiring Dilaudid, then they warrant a CT and a LP.

10 of compazine IV and watch them fly off of the stretcher. lol ..usually the 18-35 year old women come in with HA.

Yea, the akasthesia makes them want to leave the ER pretty quickly. Just kidding. Usually I give Benadryl or Cogentin with it to prevent the akasthesia/dystonic reaction.

RE: pain meds... There's an article in the New York Times about limiting some schedule II's (OxyContin, Fentanyl Patch, etc.) to a select few prescribers.
