Are you aggressive when lifting?

Hello All,

Its important to be very aggressive when approaching that big weight. You have to really want to shift it. At first, you can go through the motions just like a BB does, but then its gets heavy....then it gets scary!

What psychological tactics do you use before you shift that Bad Ass weight? I see some guys who take the hinges off the door of the changing room when they burst out, put their hands on that weight and lift like a MoFo! Others like myself like to slowly approach the bar, keep their thoughts together, and then just do it. Others again like to shout and roar before and after the lift etc.

What do you do?

I've sometimes approached the bar and walked away five or six times. Finally I'll hit the zone or get annoyed with myself and just lift. Getting angry with the weight really only works for me for the sub-maximal weights more to give me energy than anything else. When I know I'm in trouble, I have to find the right mood to lift it and be prepared to give everything.

I don't get psyched up until i am either under it or pulling it. The whole screaming and hitting thing is not me, but everyone is different.

How about your training partner yelling at you about 3 inches from your head...or someone hauling off and slapping you upside the head before you hit the weight?

Being called a pussy...saying you lift like my momma........telling you the spandex chick in the corner on the adductor machine squatted more weight than you last night.....

Then there's always ammonia. :)

When doing standing overhead presses I get like Lou Ferrigno from "Pumping Iron".
"awnold, awnold, awnold, i godda do mo".

I always lift with my mp3 player. I have certain songs that I cue up and pull heavy when the right part comes on.
Examples:
System of a down- Forest
Pantera- Throes of rejection
Slipknot- Liberate
and others but those are my standbys.
