Are you a bodybuilder?

What is a bodybuilder? Here's a definition from gymtime's dictionary: someone who competes in the sport of bodybuilding, ameteur or professional.

Also, I don't "train" at the gym, I workout. If you're training, you're training for a sport that you're involved in. If you're not involved in a sport, you're just working out.

Am I wrong?

Nope I think your right on. I don't consider myself a bb at all...I just love to workout big time. Always have and probably always will. I also pretty much subscribe to fro's take on things, it is a way of life.

I call my workouts "training" and I don't compete or play sports.

If you compete your definetly a bodybuilder, If you don't but you live the lifestyle (eat, sleep, train etc) and have been lifting for at least a couple years and have developed a well balanced quality physique I think you could then be called a bodybuilder.

I've been living the lifestyle for about 2.5 years and I don't really consider myself a bodybuilder because I don't have abs. If I can get abs and gain a solid 10-15 more pounds of muscle then I would think of myself as a bodybuilder because I know I would be able to compete and place well if I wanted to.

Just my own opinon of the word, others probably interpret it differently. I think those outside the BB community consider anybody that works out 4-5 days a week a bodybuilder while WE don't use the term as loosley.

people call me a body builder, or say I body build...

but I dont feel comfortable with that. I just tell them I workout and try to lead a healthy lifestyle. I enjoy following the sport of body building. But I do feel I "train", training my body to be what I want it to be.

I don't consider myself a bodybuilder. I can be pretty dedicated to traiing and diet when I want to be, but generally I just like to live a healthy lifestyle.

I don't follow pro BBing. In fact I find the whole thing a bit silly. I admire the dedication of the athletes...but I don't feel the need shave off all my body hair, stuff my massive weiner into a g-string, get oiled up, and prance around on stage with a bunch of half-naked men. :)

Besides, most real bodybuilders I know wear hip packs and big floppy pants. :D

I'm a hypocrite, I want gains fast and huge but I'm not willing to put in the time and dedication to be that way. Does that make me a bodybuilder?

I've been working out for 4 months and I can't believe i'm not bigger then Arnold! How long does this stuff take?!

I look at it like any other spot...baseball,football,golf,etc. You can be involved in it, but not as a pro or amateur. I've seen a lot of people that I thought should compete, but like me, they are just happy doing what they are doing.

i would consider victor richards a b.b. and he doesn't compete or at least i don't think he does.

havoc should know if he does.

i think you can be a body builder and have different motivational factors. weither it be to compete against others or just to look in the mirror and say look at this greco-roman demi-god like physique.

peace

I am still wondering how Bodybuilding is classified as a sport.

Can someone help me out on this? I mean I think a bodybuilder might have the most dedication of any other person but can't see how it is a sport.

I think you're right but I find it interesting that the guys in Spain I hang out with always say "entrenar". They don't seem to make a difference between working out and training for competition.

As for the lifestyle question: I grew up in gyms, started going to them when I was five years old. I've had a few years since then when I didn't work out -- or "train" if I was competitive -- but I've always returned. It teaches mastery as effectively as any other disciplined activity.

I am definitely a bodybuilder. I would be most hurt if I discovered I wasn't.

I love all of it. I am going to compete this time next year. I will win the 2006 Ms Olympia, and hold the title for many years. This is my obsession.

I am..........it is one of only things that keeps me insane.

as for best body parts, that would be upper back, biceps, and legs.

I frequently wonder how people survive without working out.......the benifits are simply too numerous to quantify.

And body building, next to running outside, lets my body get in touch with mind.......I really get in to a trance......when i go to the gym, I enter quitly, do my business then promptly leave.........and people don't know how to act because I refuse to bullshit......unless its with a training partner girl or guy, and even then conversation is somewhat limited, till we go out and have lunch with a glass of wine.

If you don't bodybuild, and have no limiting physical circumtances, you should consider it.........because when you body build, it forces you and your mind to deal with multiple circumances that you impose on your self. from getting shredded, to gettin big, it's a challenge that few can master, but when you do....its the greatest feeling......to change your body by force of the mind alone....now that's power.......mind over matter.

karma for my motivational piece please:angel:
