arched back while benching

Keep your ass on the bench, and let your back curl naturally, dont force a curl in it.
 
ok look at it this way. if the muscles are flexed in your back then your back is strong or supported. so when the back is arched during bench it is in a strong position and safe.

also it workes the chest better.
 
Chamn, Extra strong and my man Guiness have it right. Keep your traps and butt on the bench, but the larger arch you get and the more air you take it, the bigger your bench will be.

Metal Militia has a training video that sells on Ebay that really shows the tricks to arching.
 
IMO, the arch is made more comfortable by foot placement/the way that you use your legs for drive off the floor. at least this is my personal observation.
 
I've found that I get a better arch if I think of it more as rotating my chest up rather than trying to arch my back. Tuck your lats in tight and keep your shoulders and rump on the bench and fill yourself with air. Your foot position depends a lot on how you're built but you'll know that you're getting good leg drive when you feel that your hamstrings are sore after a heavy effort.
