Apple vs Google - the war has begun

idc what anyone says, google is taking over the world and no one can stop it...

people said the same thing about microcrap in the 90s. Every company gets big, tumbles and a new guy takes over. Rinse and repeat (unless u get a monopoly like oil companies and sheikhs).

They're still on top. It only took what a month before Windows 7 install base was higher than all Apple OS's combined. The only difference is now they have "some" competition. Which means they have to stop slacking and start innovating.

Whoopie. They were expected to have the higher install based because of the current market segmentation. It's not like everyone was going to switch to Linux or Mac on the same day. As for the business market, they are expected to take that one as well because of the their version of the Passport Advantage. That said, I haven't heard good things in the conferences that I've been in for their OS. That's not a slight against their functionality. It's more a concern of the initial and on-going costs.

It will be interesting if the desire for lower TCO hampers their Office dominance. I know that my teams are in the process on getting rid of it for Symphony for the casual users in my office as well as getting rid of Exchange for a hosted solution (ie Google Apps for business). The main reason for that decision is based on the storage space available to the end users (hosted Exchange - 2 GB vs GApps - 25GB with the same price point). Once the business applications shift, then it allows flexibily for the end users to have their own PCs for corporate use.

Once that happens, then it should get really interesting. At that point, I'd be tempted to bring in my PS3 with Linux as my work computer.

bing is junk. just a desperation move (and entirely too late) by MS. until google stops working, no one is going to use anything else.

couldn't agree more with this.

ever since google became a synonim of "search" and shit, a verb on its own, tell me about entry barriers.
