Anyone try the BowFlex?

A friend of mine whos pretty jacked bought a bowflex and he usses it for some of his workouts. when i heard this i just laughed at him, but he swears it works for certain workouts. presonaly i think it looks like a waste of metal. has anyone tried it? can you even even get 2 or 3 good excersises with it?

It's all on a scale. It's better than nothing, supperior to the Jane Fonda workout tapes, worse than a set of Bodymasters equipment...now look all the way accross the field 1000 yards away. Those freeweights are that much better than anything else. They have their own zipcode. Bowflex => Blowflex

yeah but sometimes certain machines work really good for certain excersises. im always swithching up my routines. that way ill find what works the best and incorperate them with eachother.

I have one and do back, triceps, chest and bi's on it. You can get some really good burnout sets and even stretch your muscles on it before hitting the heavy weights. For biceps I do free weights then a set of cable curls standing or laying down. For triceps it gives you a pull down bar for close grip pulldowns and also for kickbacks. Back, of course lat pull down and seated rows. I don't work out at a gym(home gym) so it benefits me to use this plus my free weights. It's a switch up every now and then so it's worth it to me. Just my 2 cents

Its expensive but worth the money-I have one, nothing beats free weights, however you can achieve different angles to work the muscle with out gravity comming into effect.
I would also reccomment the upgrade to 420lbs of resistance, you will reach overload rather quickly in some exercises.

im not concernd about the money. if could get at least 1-2 good workouts out of it than i would buy it. im thiking about getting a complete home gym but i want all the best equipment.

My dad has a Bowflex, I tried it once. Honestly, it's the most awkward piece of equipment I've ever used - going through the motion on every exercise .. I don't know, it just doesn't feel right. It's better than nothing, but nothing beats free weights, barbells, etc.

yeah, i know what you mean. it feels awkward just looking at the thing. but ive found that certain machines target certain bodyparts very well. so im always trying new things.

Like i said-nothing,absolutey NOTHING beats free weights.
Use it to supplement your workouts

Bowflex has it's place in a fitness program, but like everyone has said, nothing beats free weights. I thing that a bowflex might be good for someone who is looking to get into shape and is a little intimidated by free weights, or like radar said, to supplement your program, but it shouldn't be the primary focus of an experienced lifter's routine.

I also know they have been recalled a few times. Over 850,00 units were recalled recently.

The recall was for a support of the incline board, it seemed a particular overweight person could stress the board causing it to break, they corrected this by sending a metal support at no charge to all owners, it takes only 5 minutes and 4 screws to correct the problem.

I've got one.. and right now i use it in place of freeweights.. mostly cuz the nearest gym is 45mins away.. and my work schedule makes it so even if i did make the drive.. i'd only have time for 2-3 sets and have to leave :worried:

but i do really like it. and i've seen some pretty good gains off of it. i'm not comparing it to freeweights.. but resistance is resistance.

Absolutely! You use a weight machine for lat pull down, bowflex offers the same thing if you have enough resistance

my friend owned one and i tried it..... sucks, not worth the money !!! just buy a bench and some weights, much better investment

I fucked around with a crossbow a few times when hurricanes were ravaging the area. Couldnt get to the gym. And also during this back injury. I can definately get blood into the muscle and achieve a pump. Atleast with enough sets. The resistance was only 220 or something like that. I wouldnt buy the machine. Im also not sure I could get much, if any growth on the thing, even if I snapped the bands in half. Hard to say though, cuz I never trained exclusively on that type of machine. Ill probabally use it when Im forced to train very light, rehabbing these back injuries.
