Anyone play The Sims online?

If so...please explain this to me. This story details one of several controversies WRT The Sims online. This one's about Sim prostitution, which supposedly translated into actual US dollars for the pimp in question.

So, here's what I don't get:

1) What in the HELL do you get from Sim prostitution? A real life blowjob, that kind of gratification I understand. Sim sex? I don't get it.

2) How does one translate Sim money to real money?

Sims Online is a glorified chatroom.

Each person has a avatar (player character) that is an icon that you control. Your typed words show up like cartoon speech on screen.

In Sims online people make money through various in game means.

This person had virtual sex (in a chat room talking nasty) for in game Simoleans. Simoleans being the "credit" used in game.

Now after acquiring these Simoleans, they could sell them on EBay to other people who did-not/could-not acquire them in game. Thus she would type nasty to someone for 15-30 minutes and they would give her up to 500,000Simoleans. Then afterwards she could sell 1million Simoleans on Ebay for 80 bucks.

Eventually she owned a virtual house that she used as a brothel and had other girls (and f4ggoty boys) do the dirty talk for Simoleans. She got a cut of the earnings.

Actually they are buying the time and effort it takes to acquire the fake money or items.

Yeah, I've heard about the EverQuest deal, and that at least kinda makes sense to me...buying rare items you might not be able to get a hold of in the game, making yourself more of a badass.

But buying fake money to give to people for more fake services?

I've done DOOM bots and those are just a series of if statements and reaction settings.

An interactive one like this would require a vocabulary lexicon. I know OMGWTFBBQ wrote one that interacted on ef for a bit and then he posted the code somewhere on here.

Yep...he and I talked about it after the Radiohead bot. I was just trying the other day to remember what name he used for it.

I had a couple of ideas for 'em, but lacked the technical know-how.
