Wellbutrin. i've been taking it for a week and i feel like going next door and cleaning their house. with fire. just lots o mood swings. `fraid i might wind up in the hoosegow.......

From your post i understand you are concerned of this causing agitation. During initiation of the first week of wellbutrin it is common for an increase in agitation/anxiety/ and manic features which varys for different individuals/different diagnosis. What is/are your diagnosis? any history of thoughts of harming yourself or others? Have you ever been in this mood before, and how did you deal with it?

Clinical/Reactive Depression. those thoughts fill my entire day. i've been dealing with this for 20+ years. i don't deal with it, it deals with me....

have you been on any other medications for your reactive depression? have you ever seen a therapist on a regular basis? and if so, how did that go?

i've tried several. therapists don't have answers. they just let you vent and charge $75 an hour.

Wellbutrin / Wellbutrin SR / Wellbutrin XL's pros and cons:
Pros: Low chance of sexual side effects, unless you consider making you hornier a sexual side effect. Amongst the currently approved antidepressants Wellbutrin (bupropion hydrochloride) has the least chance of triggering mania in the bipolar. No weight gain associated with SSRIs. Often a very effective antidepressant, as dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake are sometimes the answer for someone.

Cons: Despite Glaxo's assertions, the SR form does cause minor seizure events in people with no prior history at the higher dosages. Wellbutrin (bupropion hydrochloride) can be used recreationally, so it can be abused. It has to be avoided by anyone with an eating disorder.

Wellbutrin / Wellbutrin SR / Wellbutrin XL's Typical Side Effects: Agitation, anxiety, insomnia, weight loss (bupropion is undergoing trials as a weight loss medication), headache, dry mouth, nausea, constipation, dizziness. Most of these are transitory, but the weight loss, agitation and insomnia tend to stick around. Wellbutrin (bupropion hydrochloride) is often used to counter the side effects of other medications.

Wellbutrin / Wellbutrin SR / Wellbutrin XL's Not So Common Side Effects: Strange body odor, sweating, nervousness and tremor. Basically Wellbutrin could make you look like the guilty party, so you better have a damn good alibi at all times in case some big, unsolved crime goes down.

Wellbutrin / Wellbutrin SR / Wellbutrin XL's Freaky Rare Side Effects: Change in hair color. They swore Lady Clairol wasn't involved! There was also new hair, possibly in unusual places Some men reported painful erections, unusual ejaculations and outright impotence, which are just one some of God's little jokes when you combine those with Wellbutrin's tendency to make you hornier.

My mom was taking it for a while. The site I listed is a pretty good one. It's from the perspective of someone who's taken/taking Wellbutrin.

what is reactive depression?
well, it's kind of having depression brought on by having someones brains blown onto your face or a sudden death of someone close or any trauma. sometimes when you don't deal with things they manifest, like cancer, and start to consume......

My vote: Get a new Doctor.
If you just feel like you are showing up tp grab some pills and drop off 75 bucks, it isn't working for you. I'm not saying your doc is bad. I am saying you probably need a new doc. What may work for some may not work for you.
I have had a gazillion patients taking Budeprion......it does not work for everyone.
My soon-to-be husband took it for a while. He walked around grinding his teeth and clenching his fists.
Find a doc that u feel understands you. Find someone who knows what you need.

that takes too much time. i need it now. i stopped everything about 4 days ago. still coming down off of it. you're talking about long, drawn out sessions with a psychiatrist, which i'm not interested in. i'd rather just siphon thru them until i find something.

Have you tried Paxil CR? That's what I take and it's worked well for me. Just about every other medicine including Wellbutrin didn't work for me.

i'll put that on my list. i might try Lexapro or str8 up Lithium next.

I had one doctor -- don't recall which one -- mention the possibility of trying Wellbutrin for neuralgia.

It's somewhat difficult finding off-label information.

I tried Lexapro and it's teh suck for me. Lithium is much more powerful and can make you feel better or worse than you've ever felt. Lithium is a big step up.

btw, EB thanks for sharing. it's not easy even mentioning that you take a certain type of med with all of the stigmas attached.

I believe Effexor xr (Venlafaxine) is the most potent anit-d. It's marketed as 'Prozac with a punch'. It's worked for a few people I know.

i took that for over a month and felt pretty good, but the physical sides were too much. migraines almost every 3 or 4 days and bad heartburn....

You might like Mirtazapine. That shit puts me out like no other. It works better for sleep than Ambien, Sonata, Tylenol PM and many more. It does cause weight gain, but not for all.

right now, with no meds whatsoever, i am flying high. like way too high. i get maybe 4 hours of sleep a day. but still work 40+ hours a week and train like a freak 4-5 days a week. i need to relax...

I have taken Welbutrin. It is just about the exact same thing as Zyban and it helped me to quit a can a day chewing habit. For me it really calmed me down and worked wonders. Other than noticing I was calmer than usual it did seem to supress some withdrawal symptoms from quitting nicotine. It is just as Zyban an anti-depressant. That is something you should talk to your doctor about since it seems to be having a negative affect on you than its intended purpose. I have a friend who used Welbutrin for a week and it had a very nasty affect on him that landed him in the hospital. So I guess it depends on the user but I would definately inform your doc about its affects. He can not help you if he does not know and there is no shame in bettering yoursefl
