Anyone Know About Labor Laws????!

My restuarant makes you pay for someones meal if they walk out on you. Ive worked at another place and the place took care of it. I think this is the first place that makes you pay out of your own pocket...Is this allowed?
 
if they walk out without paying? That's a security job, your job is not to stop and restrain a non-paying customer.

If the customer complains and doesn't pay due to lousy food, that's not your fault unless you cooked it.

Sigh. When I worked as a waitress it was pointless trying to explain to the boss that if customers complained about the food, it wasn't my fault, I served it, I did not cook it. I still got the earful, as the chef was in the kitchen ad she was out front flirting with the barman....
 
Thats not labor law, thats store policy... you can even the score by not ringing up deserts and getting a bigger tip.. sounds like you work for assholes... the store benefits from the profit of the dinner, why should the server take all the risk??? Fuck them..
 
Basically....

Well a girl i work with had her mom call the dept. of labor after she had to pay for a walk out. They told her that it is not the stores decision to make her pay for the food that they walked out on.

Theres plenty of shit I give away for free at that place. Because it is a franchise the managers want to get profits as high as possible so they get their bonuses...Thats the reason for their fucked up policies.

I have not had a walkout yet (knock on wood) But I do know if a table walked out on me I would do my best to try to stop them before they left the property.

They keeep giving us crap telling us that if we were paying attention to our tables they wouldnt have walked out. At the same time they expect us to be in the back running food to other peoples tables to help out. We are not aliens and we cannot be at 2 places at once. It seems like they just look for excuses for us to do more work, make less money, and take all the blame all so they do not have to pay any more..

The girl also found out that the hour before opening that we are scheduled to come in before our shift should be minimum wage not the $2.13/hour they give us since in that hour we do not have any customers..

This place seems like it is breaking alot of rules so far. On top of that the inspector for the Dept of Health would have shut them down if her son didnt work there. They got lucky in that sence.
 
do you have an employee handbook you signed?have you read it ? most restaurants on a walkout WILL make the mployee pay some may not. If they do it to one they must do it to everyone. facts are some folks have friends who come in feed them and than have a "walk out" and at times folks do walk out. Your manager can simply say you where not paying attention or on the floor at the time and its your responsibility. Frankly and this amy not be the answer you want a server shouls at all times when not running food be on the floor. To many hide in the kitchen or wherever fucking around. I am tired of some places where servers "dissapppear" not saying it was your fault but check the handbook and ask others. however its enforced it must be consistent.
 
A walk out never happened to me..I watch my tables like a hawk and I trust no one. If I am busy doing otherwise I usually get someone to watch. But if I had to I would chase after them into the parking lot...
