bro, i'm no expert, and this is no flame. my ex is a life-flight trauma nurse and she says that the stds. 4 hypertension have changed.swatdoc said:168/82 isn't borderline. That's Stage II hypertension.
Stage I: 140-160/90-100
Stage II: 160-180/100-110
Stage III: 180-200/110-120
Stage IV: >200/>130
"Pre-hypertension" is 120-140/80.
You should really get your blood pressure treated. High blood pressure is dangerous in those that lift heavy weights, especially powerlifters. There is evidence from a small study that showed that arterial systolic blood pressures can go as high as 300 in normotensive people and as high as 400 in people who have a history of high blood pressure when they perform heavy squats.
With blood pressures this high, you run the risk of aneurysm formation/dissection of your aorta.
Don't mess with your health. Get your blood pressure treated and just blame it on genetics, which is the cause in the majority of cases of hypertension. High blood pressure will lead to heart failure, strokes, heart attacks, and kidney failure if it's left untreated.
120/80 normal
120/80 - 140/90 "pre" hypertension
>140/90 stage 2 (where is stage 1?) (teatment -diet and or meds poss)
gets worse from there,I don't know enough to comment further.
get it checked out anyway
