beastboy said:How tough is the curriculum?? I'm thinking about pursuing this, but I'm not sure. Also, what was the GMAT like? Is a 450 a tough score to get?
It's going to take 19 classes for an M.B.A. for me and I don't know if it's worth it......
beastboy said:The MBA course is actually only 11 courses, but my undergrad was in engineering so I have no business background so I have to take 8 classes as a base. I'm not sure how tough it will be with no previous business background, but I am sick of engineering......
beastboy said:How is the GMAT?? Is is a joke or a pain?

It's a little of both. It's all multiple choice and computerized now too which is cool. Back in my day I had to go take a test with a PENCIL! A PENCIL YA HERE ME!!!!

And I bet there was no such thing as mechanical pencils......
beastboy said:Another quick question....if I'm working full time, have a family and all that stuff, how many classes at a time would you recommend for the average person.....
beastboy said:I really do want to go for it, but I just need to find a way to fit it into the family life, my workouts, job, and side business. I want to do it all without having to sacrifice anything. I know it sounds selfish, but I really do most of these things for my family and not myself.......

Look into an abreviated weekend program and online programs, you can find plenty of options beyond the traditional model are available.

Its pathetic actually. Business's think theyree getting top notch 'hawks' with an mba. *snicker*
buddy28 said:go for it man. if youve already earned a degree in engineering, ull breeze through business once u get ur head adjusted to the new displine.

Instead of an MBA, stick your face in the toilet and flush it 17000 times. You'll have learned just as much about business.
An MBA may help you get a management type job. Is it your dream to be the CEO of Ford? Corporations are usually about 10 years ahead of schools.
Because of the tough times, you'll be faced with a glut of MBAs when you finish, and it won't really be worth a lot.
Your time and money

mrbill said:It can never hurt and it very possibly might give you an advantage that will help. I am not sure why skywalker is so anit-MBA, but don't take my word or his for it. Just look at data on the salary differences of people with MBA's versus those without. Also, check out the educational credentials of most high level execs. and then make up your own mind about how valuble it is. As for the GMAT if you have an engineering background the math section will probably be very easy. As for the verbal section I don't know how adept you are in this area but I am sure you will do well. If you are worried just take one of the prep courses. 450 should be very easy to score if you have any brains at all. Since you have a family and work I would recommend taking 2 classes a semester, unless you feel you can comfortably handle more. Hope this helped. Good luck.

If you want to jump ahead in the rat race, MBA is the way to go. If you want to start your own thing (I have done that, too) don't bother with it.
Basement Dweller said:Beastboy, what school are you looking at (I'm in Michigan too)? I had an Engineering undergrad and the GMAT was no problem, scoring 450 will be a joke. If your employer is paying, I say go for it. If you are paying, it depends on your career goals, your finances, etc.
Most of the "go getters" at work have Masters degrees, but not all the people with Masters degrees are "go getters", if that makes any sense. We have a lot of dipshits with advanced degrees.
