does it make THAT much difference in sleeping comfort?

and how about the memory foam pillows??

Rnch, I had a memory foam pillow and I did not like it. The pillow is hard compared to a regular pillow. Take care

I've never tried the mattress or mattress pad, but I've got a contoured foam pillow and couldn't ever go back to a stuffed pillow.

The memory foam matresses like TempurPedics are really cool -- especially if you lift and are sore a lot. They contour to your body and can really make nights easier. I've noticed that not only am I less sore, but I flip and flop less.

A number of manufacturers have played around with the density of the foam. Some even offer two-tone layers now (I have one of those).

But to answer your original question, I have a matress "topper" as well (long story, but I bought it to soften a fairly firm memory foam bed). The topper I have is too soft and I sink too much into it. That's the tricky thing about memory foam matresses in general -- you want to sink enough to make a good fit, but once you sink too much into it things get very sore and uncomfortable.

So my advice: If you want to buy a topper for your existing matress of memory foam, err to the side of a firm one. If you get the density right then definately -- they do make a huge difference.

P.S. There is a pillow out there called the "Perfect"-something or something-Perfect... I forget. But it's one-half memory foam and one-half synthetic down. It's way cool and I highly recommend those too.

Those things are buko bucks, my roommate just got one I think it was $1,600.....It'd be worth it though for sure.

Plunkey you ever try just the foam topper on a regular mattress? I've seen those for sale for near $100....

yeh, see them on overstock.com in 1, 2, 4 inch thickness.....wondering if it's worth buying one?

My friend has one of them toppers and says it's really sweet but I'd only be interested if it would help w/ back pain.

i have the mattress.

i'm fairly sure i have the most comfortable bed in the history of sleeping.
800 thread count sheets, down comforter and pillows.

I have tried one and I hated it. I like to be cool when sleepng and the way the mattress encompasses your body made me hotter then hell.

If you have back pains its unbelievable. I have both and love them both. You can't put a dollar amount on sleep.

I've never tried a topper with a regular matress. My guess is that a medium or higher density topper would work great on a really firm matress. If, however, you start with a soft matress I bet the topper wouldn't perform as well.

we have one, the tempurpedic middle option in terms of firmness. and some pillows and both of use sleep so damn much better, less aches, you name it. best 2k we've spent in ages.

I slept on one..one night and I woke up with my back so sore I could barely move.

I heard you have to get adjusted to them though.

It took me 10-14 days to get used to mine.

If my mattress had a memory ... what tales it could tell :)
Probably a stream of never-ending Lance Bass roleplay and pork sword fights.

i have the memory foam mattress but it was bought a few years ago and i think its worn. but it is very comfortable. i highly recommend it. but when it starts to wear you can tell because the memory foams doesnt go back to flat. i cant remember how long ive had it but im looking at getting another one soon. but it will be a memory foam matteress again.
