Anyone ever have trouble sleeping...?

Or is it just me?? I've done the searches on all the sleep aids - "herbal" stuff like chamomile tea, melatonin, 5-HTP, etc. and I've tried all of them with no luck. Then I've gone the route of Nyquil, Tylenol PM, etc. These knock me out, but then I feel like someone ran over my head with a truck with big poofy tires (you had to be there...) the next day. Never tried Prince Valium or Xanax, trying to avoid the easily addictive stuff. My choice would be GHB, but that's not an option because, well, its not legal....

Do you girls have those sleepless nights? And if yes, what do you do about them??

I've used the 3 mg pills (I believe) -- the problem is that it used to work great for me (I'm a career night owl!) but now I just get whacked out dreams for a few hours and then wake up and stare at the ceiling for the remainder of the night.

I am always wide awake at night, especially the past few months I believe it is a combination of many things....ive tried everything...but it takes a larger dose and I usually can not get up in the morning when i need to....dragin like a MOFO....Ghb is what works best for me, knocks me out deep and i wake up feeling fine...but of course like sass said its not like you can get it like tylenol pm...but ive found it is the only thing that works for me:(

Sassy,
did you try the sublingual melatonin? Worked much better for me... but had some kinda freaky dreams on it... and sometimes woke up kinda 'out of it'/ wondering where I am/ what day is this...

Now I use the full body relaxation method: kinda what Spat said- get my mind to stop processing tomorrow's data...starting at toes, consciously relaxing each body part... never seem to get to my shoulders before zzzz

I find it hard to fall asleep a lot too. But honestly, for me, a good romp in the hay puts me to sleep so nicely. Along with a little melatonin........and David Letterman. All in that order.

I don't sleep well either. I have tried everything... but I have found other than my perscription of trazadone that Alluna Sleep works fairly well. I never woke up with the croggy feeling. I didn't find melatonin to work for me...

I go in spurts with my sleep patterns. Depending on stress levels with work.

I have found that a nice hot bath , candles, reading do the trick most times for ME. How about music,Yoga? I'd add something else but this thread would end up in Elite 'tween the sheets.....

I refuse to take meds(for personal reasons) but IF your pattern should continue...CALL YOUR DOCTOR! You have to get your rest!

Thx for the input ladies -- Night Owl-itis has been one of my afflictions since childhood - go figure my parents are always out cold by 9 PM. I pulled all nighters when I had to in college, then found myself pulling all-weekers when I worked for a start up. Now I go home, no job-related stress or anythign, nice hard-ass leg workout, starting to nod off as I finish my last post to elite (!) and then wash up, pet the cat good night and hit the rack. Then it starts..... gotta do this, should do that before work tomorrow, gotta remember to do this, etc. going thru my mental calendar of shit... then roll over, stare at the clock, stare at the ceiling, flip, repeat. ALL FRIGGIN NIGHT! I usually fall asleep around 4 am and sleep HARD, but last night it didn't happen. I was starving at 4:30, so I got up and nuked some egg whites, went back to bed. 5 am - awwwww screw it, got up, took a shower, dressed, off to work by 6 am. Of course thinking I can leave after 8 hours (2 pm) ---- LMFAO! I'm sitting here waiting for my boss to call back and its 3:40 pm. And I'm not passed out cold on my key board yet. I just bet I'm going to be wide awake by the time I get home. Useless for training tonite, but still can't fall asleep for a nap, so I'll stare at the TV and see if they can rerun the same Britney Spears Diary shit on MTV again.

I think we should lobby to make GHB legal. Oh well. ... hopefully I won't be chatting with you all tonite.....<yawn>

I use 1mg of sublingual melatonin. I have no trouble falling asleep, but I use the melatonin, because it helps me STAY asleep and have a deeper sleep. I also use those Breathe-Right nose strips, so I breathe better. Wearing it at night helps keep me breathing clear all day.

Just found out a couple of years ago I have sleep apnea. That's why I was so tired all the time (aside from the old crappy diet.) I have a small airway, I didn't meet the standard criteria for sleep apnea - (overweight older man), so that's why it took so long to diagnose.

I agree with brickgirl, the orgasm thing works great. lol

seriously though- when I'm dieting i can never sleep. I hate to do it, but good ol sominex or tylenol pm will knock you out in a hurry.

Sassy---over on the AS board, someone posted about sleeping problems also. Thought you might want to chk it out---might be something there you havent heard of yet :)

I was just checkin it out-- the usual - 5HTP, etc. I've got a shelf full of all that stuff...If my brain doesn't want to slow down to sleep, it aint' gonna :-(

sassy--- Valiums arent addicting and they kick ass... u know the deal with me... and im doin just fine.. sleep like a baby EVERY night!! if i didnt take em i would be up like u ...ass... xoxoxoxo --

Melatonin (5mg sublingual) and Kava Kava right before bed.

Valium has too long of a half-life as do other drugs from this class. Addictive as well.

New@, you're going to get hooked on GHB. Can't see how it produces a sound night's sleep either. It's good for about 3 hours unless you multidose. Either way, if you are using it all the time, you'll get hooked and regret it. Better be careful where the G is coming from as well from a purity standpoint. Its also a Schedule I, not schedule III like AAS. Feds are hot on G like they are X.

I dont use it all the time..and i dont take multi dosages..1 is plenty and i fall asleep. I promise im not addicted:) Everything else i try..i gotta take so much of it and i wake up and feel so sluggish. Ive tried eliminating fatburners etc...doesnt matter im always wired. Did the bath thing..doesnt work:(...Now i just been wearing myself out posing before bed and taking tons of melatonin...only use other stuff occasionally. Any other remedies???

Try a product by Schiff called Knock-Out. It has Melatonin, kava kava, valerian, GABA, and a few other things. I have purchased it both in a health food store and a regular supermarket (Ralph's here in CA). It's about $20-25, is time-released so it will keep you resting ALL night and doesn't give you a hangover - you will wake up feeling rested!

Sounds like part of your problem is just mental. You've got to make your mind stop and try some deep relaxation breathing. One thing that helps me when I get restless is to make list of everything I've got to get done. It helps you not go over things in your head again and again because it's all on paper ready to be checked off.

I found a link to the Knock-Out

GHB is definitely the most effective, I've never gotten better sleep than that! I haven't touched it in a long time though, because it's very hard to get and because I'd rather do it naturally unless it's damn near impossible and I have no choice. If I'm going to take something supplemental to help me sleep it's gonna be G before anything else.
I've tried valerian root and it works, but I don't seem to wake up feeling rested after.

HOWEVER, my natural sleep aid works very well for me - go for a walk outside in the fresh air, come home and take a shower. I always sleep like a baby after that :nighty:

Benadryl OTC is OK, but it dries you out. Ambien, by prescription, is an excellent sleep aid. Non-addicting, and you have a sound sleep and feel refreshed in the AM.

Sassy:

It sounds from your post that part of your problem might be anxiety related.
Have you considered an SSRI like Paxil or Wellbutrin? It may be just what the
real doctor ordered.

You know I recently talked with a counselor because I had gone to see a regular MD for a full blood workup and was expecting to be pointed to a nutritionist or something because the situation I'm experiencing right now is a gain of 20 lbs following a (natural) bb comp last November. My trainer did two things for me-- encouraged me to load ECA (built my own stack from ephedrine, No Doz & aspirin) after which I apparently just burnt out on it and it may well be the cause of my current metabolism problems??? and the other was to train me basically like a power lifter I guess- I added a good 10 lbs of muscle but also a lot of bodyfat on a heavy training program with a lot of complex carbs and not much cardio. As a result, I basically increased my "plateau" weight a good 20 lbs and I haven't been able to lower it despite diet changes and continued balls-to-the-wall training & cardio.

Soooooo, anyway, I go to see this doc about my bloodtests - see if I have a screwed up thyroid or whatever. I take my blood tests, everything is normal, but immediately after I took the tests, but before I got the results back, that doc left his firm on some family emergency and ended up leaving for good. So I had started this counselor expecting to want some "mental" support as I went into what I thought was going to be some experimental dieting regimes (e.g. try this diet, try that, find out how to tweak, etc.). But since the MD left, and I had already seen 2 others who were flaky as shit (one heard me describing my weight situation as "fat chick wants to lose weight fast" - prescribed fentermine and said "have a nice day", second guy started hitting on me-- gawd...). So I just bailed out of the whole doctor thing. The counselor suggested that I've been mildly depressed most of my life and that she would recommend one of the prescription anti-depressants except that they would make me gain weight. Which brings me back to exactly the source of my last 9 months' frustration.

That is why I don't care to go for prescription meds. I've always been a night owl and often have trouble sleeping - I've had my best luck when my diet is clean and I am making positive progress in my life. Currently my diet is clean, but I'm still stuck at a higher weight than I prefer and most of my clothes dont' fit and it has greatly affected my comfort being out in public and many other facets of my life. Soooo.. bottom line, that is where I need to make my progress.

May sound silly to anyone reading this, but that's where I'm at and that's how I got here.

sassy, check your PM

I've had a similar problem for the past 10 years with ever-increasing plateaus in weight and I just tried the zone diet for like 3 months and I'm thinner (waist), leaner, and lighter (in a good way) than I've been in 10 years.

:fro:

i just have to say that ever since i read this thread, i've been waking up earlier and earlier, today ! 2:00 am....what gives?

try soaking in a hot bath right before you go to bed or try a warm cup of skim or non fat milk . try to relax your body from the stress its been through all day , trust me the hot very hot bath works , i know it does for me . LH25 ;)

Sassy,

Do a search(online) for GH3(basically Renewtrient) should be able to find a distributor in TN. If not PM me I have a friend who can have it drop shipped to you. Bad part is you have to buy a case, I'll find out the price if you want.

I'm telling ya Orgasm, and if 1 doesnt do it, then do it again

I would if I could... but I can't :bawling: (need a "partner"...but please don't take this as an open invite for "qualified O providers"....)

I will have to resort to other methods, though I will continue to look for "qualified O providers" going forward...

Thx for the tease tho:p

Sassy, I thought of you the other night while reading an article in Redbook.

They said if you have problems fallling asleep, set a time for yourself to go to bed, so you are forcing yourself to go to sleep. Lets say 1 a.m.---even if you have to get up at 7 a.m.

Instead of worrying about how you will get to sleep, you will worry about how you will stay up that late. Then, you will probably conk right out when you hit the sack.

They said do that for about two weeks, then start making the time earlier and earlier until you are getting your 8 hours.

Probably a bunch of crappola, but I thought of you anyway when I read it

Thx for all your feedback guys! I'm actually sleeping really good the last few nights -- but I think I'm just so emotionally exhausted by the latest "activity" that I drop out completely when I do hit the hay.

But for future reference -- I've had sporadic problems sleeping most of my life. And I just dont' recover as easily as I used to .... age sucks LOL!

Needleboy -- I haven't had a chance to search yet on GH3 -- but i'll do it soon. Getting too tired right now...LOL!
